About Mr. Rash

Mr. Steven Rash is the Director of Bands at Odem High School. Since beginning in Odem his bands have successfully earned many honors and awards. Since 2014 the Odem High School Bands have earned five consecutive UIL Sweepstakes Awards. In 2016 he led the Odem HS Wind Ensemble to a well received performance at Carnegie Hall, a New York Concert Reviewer states, “the ensemble let loose and the result was simply unbridled fun.” During the Fall of 2017 the Odem HS ‘Spirit of OHS Marching Band’ advanced to their second ever appearance at the UIL State Marching Band Contest.

In 2010, under his direction, the Odem Junior High Symphonic Winds earned the first ever Sweepstakes Award for Odem Junior High School. Following that year they earned several more Sweepstakes as well as numerous State and local awards. In 2014 the Odem JH Symphonic Winds earned the title of State-Runner Up in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series March Category after having been a State Finalist for four out of the five previous years. The Odem HS Wind Ensemble was named State Finalists in 2017 and 2018 for the same competition, earning 5th Place in 2018. Mr. Rash has served as a Region Clinician and serves as a guest clinician for many bands around the area.

Mr. Rash is a provisional member of the Texas Music Adjudicator Association, Secretary for ATSSB Region 14, and holds memberships in Texas Music Educator’s Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association. He earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Music Education from a joint program from Case Western Reserve University and The Cleveland Institute of Music. His primary instruments are flute and saxophone. Mr. Rash is a member of the faculty at Hummingbird Music Camp in the summers in Jemez Springs, NM, returning each year to the state he grew up.

The 2018-2019 school year marks his 12th year working with the bands in Odem-Edroy ISD.
