Odem Bands Schedule: Week of 12/5/2016
Welcome to one of the busiest weeks of the year for the Odem Bands! This week we will have our Winter Concert for all students grades 6-12 in the Cafetorium on Thursday beginning at 6:30pm for the JH, and 7:30pm for the High School. This is a required and mandatory performance for all students in the band program. (Note: Eligibility does not apply to curricular concerts, so all students are expected to perform)
The Beginning Band Students will have their mandatory dress rehearsal for this concert on Wednesday after school until 5pm. Please make arrangements for your students to attend and be picked up following the rehearsal promptly. This is an important rehearsal for these students as it is their only opportunity to rehearse together prior to the concert!
The next event will be the All-Region Clinic/Concert on Friday and Saturday in Kingsville. Please see the information for that event specifically below. We would like to congratulate the students from our district on an outstanding set of results for All-Region yesterday! Odem Junior High had 24 students make the bands, with 10 of those students making the top Wind ensemble. This result was the 2nd most of the 32 Junior High Schools present, and by far the most of any 1C Middle School. Odem High School had 19 students earn spots in the All-Region Band, the most in school history! We also had 9 students advance to the Area Round of auditions! This is also the best showing for us in our school’s history! Between Odem JH and Odem HS we have 51 All-Region students, which is most definitely a fact to be proud of!

Winter Concert Information:
Our Winter Concert for both the JH and HS programs will be held in the Cafetorium on Thursday. Parking for the Cafetorium has become limited, so we ask that you please park in either the Elementary Parking Lot, or in the Tennis Court area. Students need to be sure that they are wearing their required concert attire below. 6th Graders should report to the Cafetorium by 5:45pm Thursday. JH Concert Band Students should be at the Band Hall at 6:00pm, JH Symphonic Winds students should be in the Choir Room at 6:15pm, and HS Band Students should be at the Band Hall no Later than 7pm.
Concert Attire for JH Students:
Gentlemen: Black Slacks/White Button Down Shirt/Tie (Preferably Solid Navy)/Black Dress Shoes/Sock/Belt.
Ladies: Black Blouse/Black Slacks/ Black Shoes.
Concert Attire for HS Students:
Gentlemen: Black Slacks/BLACK Button Down Shirt/Black Dress Shoes/Sock/Belt.
Ladies: Black Blouse/Black Slacks/ Black Shoes.
All-Region Clinic/Concert Information
For all students who made All-Region Bands we will travel to Kingsville for the Clinic/Concert on Friday and Saturday this week. Our time of departure on Friday is TBA, but should be right after school if not before if we can get buses available. We will return to the Band Hall Friday night at about 9:30pm. Saturday all students need to be at the Odem Band Hall by 7:30am. The All-Region Concert will begin at 3:30pm at the TAMUK Jones Auditorium. The concert order is: HS Wind Ensemble, JH Blue Band, JH Red Band, JH Wind Ensemble, HS Blue Band, and ends with the HS Red Band. I encourage you to come and see your student’s performance! Students may be picked up following their performance by parents. The remaining students should return to the Odem Band Hall between 7:30pm and 8:00pm.
There are commemorative shirts and plaques available for purchase at the concert. I do not have a cost for those items at this time. Students need to wear Concert Black for their concert on Saturday.
Corpus Christi Wind Symphony Concert
The Corpus Christi Wind Symphony is one of the finest community bands in Texas, if not the country. The group performs about 4-5 concerts each year that are free for admission. Their season opener will be on Sunday, December 11th at 6:30pm at Veteran’s Memorial High School’s Auditorium in Corpus Christi. This would be a great concert for students to see!
