Odem Bands Schedule Week of 8/20/2017

We’ve had a tremendous several weeks of band camp with The Spirit of OHS! In particular we held our own private event to open the new band hall this past week with the playing of the Alma Mater and our Fight Song, if you haven’t viewed the video we shared on the Owl Band Boosters Facebook group you can find it here: http://tinyurl.com/ybubpwu4 .

This Wednesday at 8pm we will host our Annual ‘Meet the Band’ event at Owl Stadium. We would like to invite parents, community members, and alumni to come join us for a preview of our 2017 UIL Marching Show, ‘Dark River.’

Over the past week we’ve made good headway on our move to the New Odem High School Band Hall, but we do still have a number of things to work on moving and organizing. Tuesday morning at 10am we’d like to begin our final push with another load in our trailer and finishing off with our music library being put away. We could use some student volunteers to help out with this through the morning and afternoon.

Our rehearsals this week will be similar to last week for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday we will run a similar set of times, with the performance at 8pm. Thursday we will also have a pair of performances for the ribbon cutting ceremonies for the district.

 

Band Fees Due

 

Please note that the $35 Fall Band Fee 1 should have been paid by this past week. Please get that to us Monday if it hasn’t been turned in. Additionally by Thursday we need the $40 second fee for shoes for freshmen and any other students who need shoes still in order for us to have them ordered by the first Football game after this week.

 

Concession Stand Volunteers

 

This season we have 6 Varsity Home Games that we need to staff the concession for. It is imperative that we have volunteers to cover the shifts at both concession stands at these games. It takes roughly 12 volunteers to staff the concession stands for each shift, so we need well over 140 volunteers through the season. Our Booster Officers work incredibly hard to keep the concession stands running for us, but we need to see volunteers helping them out each week.

In exchange for working a shift, setup through half-time, or half-time through clean-up, we waive the Spring Band Fee for students grades 7-12. Please sign-up for a shift at the Meet the Band night or our annual parent meeting on Tuesday, September 5th at 7pm.

 

2018 Odem Bands Trip to Florida

 

We can still take students/sponsors on our trip roster through that parent meeting on Tuesday, September 5th with no additional costs. Airfare is going to open up very shortly for the trip so beyond that there will be an increase in costs. The final deadline to join the trip will be Tuesday, October 3rd. At this time we believe the trip to be around $1,200, but that may change slightly down or up depending on the prices of airfare. Please contact me for more information about joining in on the trip.

For students who have been paying we request that you be sure to stay on top of the payments. We have made our August trip payment, but must have more payments in to cover the September payment and the airfare deposit as soon as the prices come in.

Thursday:      4:00pm – Students at Band Hall for Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies at 5:30pm (JH) and 6:00pm (HS)
