Area Marching Contest (Take 2!) and Homecoming Week Schedule
At this point everyone is aware that UIL made the prudent decision to postpone our Area Contest today. The contest has been moved to Wednesday, October 28th at Fredericksburg HS. The location should be good for the contest as they have turf, but it is a further distance and during a weekday. As such we will really need any parents that can get off to attend to please help us move the mountain and props onto the field. Many of our normal volunteers are not able to get off of work that day unfortunately. If you would please get word to me that you can help I would appreciate it!
We will be adjusting our normal rehearsal schedule this week to prepare for the contest on Wednesday. My plan is to rehearse Monday as usual – as well as have a rehearsal/load the trailer/truck Tuesday night. Wednesday we will leave very early for the contest in Fredericksburg. My hope is that we will make finals that night and the results from that will be announced at 10:30pm. With the travel time I am anticipating we will arrive back in Odem sometime around 3am Thursday morning.
In addition to the excitement of the first half of the week we have the Burning of the O on Thursday, and Homecoming on Friday. It’s definitely going to be a packed week!!! Should we advance to State, that contest is a couple days later on Monday, November 2nd!
For Monday and Tuesday we need to have all students present for the evening rehearsals, as if we advance to State we will most likely not have much rehearsal time prior to that contest beyond Monday and Tuesday. Should we advance I will get the schedule for the next few days adjusted as quickly as I can on the way home that night.
Thank you for your continual support of these amazing students! We will have a very busy week, but we hope it will be a very successful one for these students!
Monday: 6:30pm-8:30pm Rehearsal
Tuesday: 6:30pm-8:30pm Rehearsal/Load Trailer and Truck
Wednesday: Area Marching Contest – Fredericksburg HS
4:30am – Guard Reports to Band Hall for Makeup/Hair
5:30am – Band Reports to Band Hall
6:30am – Depart Band Hall
We will stop for a restroom break and breakfast on the way.
10:30am – Arrive at Stadium
12:00pm – Warm-Up
12:45pm – Prelims Performance
3:30pm – Preliminary Results
4:30pm – Dinner at Gatti’s Pizza
The rest of the evening is to be determined. I estimate a finals performance would be around 8:30, finals actually begin at 7:30pm. The announcement of bands advancing to the State Marching Contest is at 10:30pm.
~11:00pm – Depart for Home
~3:00am Thursday – Arrive in Odem
Thursday: Burning of O at 7:30pm – Students at Band Hall by 7pm
Friday: Homecoming Day
1:00pm – Band at Band Hall for Parade Prep
2:30pm – Homecoming Parade Begins
3:00pm – Pep Rally at Stadium
5:30pm – Students at Band Hall for Game Prep
7:30pm – Game Begins
