Drumline Performance tomorrow at “We Believe in Public Schools” Rally in Austin at State Capitol
As I have mentioned briefly in the last couple weeks the OHS Drumline is traveling to Austin tomorrow to participate in the “We Believe in Public Schools” Rally that is being held by a large number of Texas Small School Districts around our region and the state. Our drumline will perform for about 4 minutes at 11:38 on the South Steps of the State Capitol Building. Other groups participating in performing include: Ben Bolt Mariachi, San Diego Mariachi, and Banquete Drumline. The Rally is set to begin at 11am and conclude at 12:45pm.
Following the rally we are going to walk down a couple blocks to Planet Sub for lunch. Students may be signed out/picked up from the rally or lunch prior to our departure. We are hoping to be on the road by 2-2:30pm to do our best to avoid the worst of Austins traffic. Be advised if you do wish to meet us SXSW is going on this week and I presume parking is going to be tough to find – allot yourself plenty of time. With that being in mind we also need students to make sure they are at the band hall no later than 6:15am so we can be loaded up and depart no later than 6:30am. We will stop briefly at Buccees on the way up and back for restroom breaks.
Students are being provided shirts for the rally when they arrive at the Band Hall tomorrow. Given the cooler temperatures the past few days I would recommend students wear jeans. If shorts are worn they should be school appropriate. Students lunch is being provided by the district.
Itinerary:
5:45am: Band Hall Opens
6:15am: Students at Band Hall
6:30am: Depart Band Hall
10:45am: Arrive at Capitol
11:00am: Rally Begins
11:38am: Odem Drumline Performs
12:45pm: Rally Concludes
2:30pm: Depart Austin
~6:30pm: Arrive at Band Hall
