Odem Bands Schedule 9-3-2018

It’s hard to believe we’re already entering the third week of the school year! Thank you for your support in getting students to rehearsals with the high school band so far this season. We ask your support in having students at every rehearsal through the season. The Spirit of OHS has gotten off to a good start, but we have a long road ahead of us to get us prepared for UIL and our final contest in November at the Bands of America Super-Regional Competition in San Antonio at the Alamodome! Students attendance at rehearsals is imperative for that road to lead to success.

Before I get to the rest of high school information I would like to make sure to remind OJH Beginning Band parents that their students should have their instruments at school by Thursday. We ask that if families are struggling to get an instrument that they contact Mr. Williams by Tuesday so we can assist them in getting a quality instrument for their student to begin with. His e-mail address is williamsn@oeisd.org, and a letter was sent home with students who are still needing to take care of instruments with his cell number if you need to contact him. Please note that due to some tech issues the OJH Band Hall doesn’t currently have an office phone. Our IT department hopes to have that corrected in the next couple weeks. You can leave messages with the OJH Front Office if e-mail is not possible until then.


OHS Band Fees:

We still have a number of students who have not paid their fall band fees. All OHS Band Students should have this paid or speak with Mr. Rash by Monday at the end of our evening rehearsal. Upperclassmen who do not need marching shoes must pay $35, freshmen and upperclassmen who need new shoes are $75 for their fall fee. We would like to have shoes ordered this week, but need the students fees to be turned in before we can place the order.

Additionally Colorguard fees should be paid by now as well. Their fall fee is $200 if they need warm-ups. If they still have warm-ups from last year they only need to pay $100.

Please note that all students have a $50 spring band fee due in January. That fee is waived if a parent works a shift in the concession stand.


OJH Band Fees:

All OJH 7th and 8th Grade students need to have their $25 Fall Band Fee turned in by next week to Mr. Williams. The fee covers their band shirt and supplies for the fall semester.

Please note that all 7th and 8th grade students have a $50 spring band fee due in January. That fee is waived if a parent works a shift in the concession stand.


Concession Stand Sign-Up:

We have held a couple of sign-up opportunities for the concession stand but need a lot more parents to sign-up to run the concession stands. For the concession stands you don’t need to have a background check form. We have jobs for people with food handlers permits, but also can use parents in other roles if you do not. We ask that every student have a parent that signs up for a shift at a Varsity Game here: https://tinyurl.com/y96xygud The funds the band boosters raise go to the entire program grades 6-12, and we cannot effectively run the program without those funds. Please help us ensure the future of the Odem Band program stays bright by volunteering!

The calendar for the Odem Bands begins to get full in the next month. Please note these events on your calendar. I am only including contests, please note we have Friday football games every week as well for HS students. You may find the full calendar at this link.


Tuesday, September 11th: Mandatory Odem Band Parent Meeting for Grades 7-12 (6th Grade parents welcome)

Saturday, September 22nd: All-Region Jazz Auditions Hosted at Odem HS (Need 4-6 parents to help if possible)

Saturday, September 29th: Robstown Marching Festival

Saturday, October 6th: Gregory-Portland HS Marching Contest (Please note we have switched to this contest instead of Goliad due to Goliad’s Contest being Cancelled)

Saturday, October 13th: Marching Clinic with Guest Clinician

Saturday, October 20th: UIL Region Marching Contest at Sinton (Estimated Performance time between 6:30pm-7:30pm – Schedule available two weeks before contest)

Friday, November 2nd: Bands of America Super-Regional Contest Day 1 Performance at Alamodome (Performance between 11am-1:15pm TBA)

Saturday, November 3rd: BOA Day 2 Awards and watch other bands
