Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 10/14/2024
This week will be busy despite the school holiday on Monday for the bands. Monday (tomorrow) evening, we will still be having rehearsal! As I told the students yesterday, we cannot be prepared for UIL if we miss our biggest rehearsal of the week. Please help ensure they are in attendance from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow! (Note: We will also rehearse next Monday still as well!) All rehearsals are graded and mandatory.
This week begins our trek through our UIL contests! First up on Saturday is the UIL Region Marching Contest in Beeville. We perform at 6:45 p.m. at AC Jones HS stadium. Students must be at the school by 1:00 p.m. for our preparations. Please help us ensure they have had a good meal and are hydrated. We are the final band that will perform in Conference 3A before a dinner break, so we will come off the field and hold by the fence for our results before we pack up our equipment and come home. We should return about 8:30 p.m. from the contest. We need ten to twelve parents/adults to help us get equipment on and off the field; please let us know if you can help!
We urge parents, relatives, friends, community members, etc. to come out and support students at the contest! Tickets for this event are only sold online at this site: https://uilmusicregion14.ludus.com/index.php. Tickets are $6 for any age 6 and up, and children Aged five and under are admitted free.
Should we successfully earn a Superior Rating at the Region marching contest, we will advance the following weekend to the Area Marching Contest. That contest will also be held in Beeville. I will not have a schedule for the event until late next weekend. I’m reasonably confident our performance will be sometime in the early afternoon. The night before (25th), the football team has a Bye Week. We are planning a community performance and send-off event at 7:00 p.m. at Owl Stadium before loading equipment, so we don’t have to deal with that the following day. This will be a performance grade that evening.
That will lead to the following week, where we will host the UIL 2A Area Marching Contest. We have tentative times of 12 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for the contest but we will not know the schedule until after Region Contests are held next weekend and we know the numbers of bands who advance. Last year was the first year they had enough bands to host a finals round. We’re hopeful they’ll have that again, but we’ll be done in the afternoon if they have less than ten bands. We have one final week of marching contests the following week. The guaranteed performance is for the Bands of America Super-Regional Competition at the Alamo Dome on Friday, November 8th. We perform at 11:30 a.m. for the contest. For anyone who wishes to purchase tickets for the event, that information is here: https://marching.musicforall.org/event/san-antonio-super-regional-2024/ We will travel up the following day for awards and to watch finals that evening.
