Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 10/17/2022
We would like to begin this week by congratulating the members of The Spirit of OHS for earning a Superior Rating yesterday at the UIL Region Marching Contest for their 17th consecutive year! They did very well and should be proud of their performance!
This week that Superior Rating means we have advanced to the UIL Area Marching Contest where 35 bands are going to be competing for 12 finalist spots in the evening. The full official schedule has not yet been released, but we have a tentative schedule I am placing in the week’s schedule section below. Students will need to be at the FIELD by 5:30am. We will do our stretches, walk through, and load to leave in fairly short order. Please help us make sure every student is on time that morning as I have tried to let them sleep as long as possible in the schedule. There is no wiggle room for late students this week!
Our performance time is set to be 9:45am in Beeville. Once we perform we will be going somewhere else to eat lunch and relax before coming back to the contest later in the afternoon. Results should be about 6pm, and if we advance to finals those begin at 7:30pm. (We have a draw about midway through the list of bands, so it would probably perform closer to 9.) Drum major retreat for finals should take place about 11pm and we would return home about midnight. If we don’t advance to finals we will come home after dinner.
We have been working incredibly hard since the end of July on this show, and this week is going to be a heavy push into Area. Students MUST attend all rehearsals this week! Pending weather, we have a set of clinicians coming tomorrow night, and a backup night of Thursday for rehearsals. We have to fix some things that judges commented on, and continue drilling and refining other issues we know we have. We will rehearse on our normal schedule no matter what happens with weather!
Tickets for this weekend will be for sale online only again. I have not received that link yet, as soon as I have it I will pass it onto you all.
On Friday night we do have our Senior Band Parent’s Night that will take place before the game. We will begin ours following the team and cheerleaders pregame. Senior parents, please make sure you are by the scoreboard side entrance by 6:45pm so we may begin and conclude our ceremony before the game.
When we complete this week, we still have two more big ones to come! First up, next week we will be hosting the 2A Area Marching Contest on Saturday, October 29th. I have posted a sign-up genius here for that event: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4FA8A92AA7FAC25-uil2aarea We only have 6 bands that will be attending the contest, but it will take the same volunteer force to bring the event together for those participating schools as we had for our Invitational. We will perform in Exhibition at the end of the contest like we did with ours and especially will need adults helping out at that point.
We will be concluding our season the following week on our overnight trip to San Antonio as we perform at the Bands of America Super Regional Competition in the Alamodome. There are currently 82 participating bands in the competition, and we are looking forward to being back in the Dome and also getting to watch some amazing bands to conclude our season! More information will come when we get through with our area contest.
Thank you for your help and support all season, but most importantly here as we sprint to the finish!
