Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 10/25/2021
First of all, I want to offer my and the students’ heartfelt gratitude to all of the parents and volunteers who have helped us this season. All of us were heartbroken that our season came to an unexpected end on Saturday, but I know that the students hard work on the show, and their performance, will forever still have a positive impact on them! This Friday we will perform the show one final time for the last home game of the season. This will also be our Senior Band Parent night as well, which will happen pre-game at 6:55pm when the team goes to the locker room.
The football and cheer parent night were pushed back to this week from its’ original date, so we know it’ll be a little bit different getting everything going. Many of our senior’s parents may already be on the field, but otherwise we need Senior Band Parents to meet Mr. Williams by the entrance to the field on the scoreboard side beside where the band sits. Seniors will receive a form to complete their senior information tomorrow.
Our biggest event of the week though will be hosting the UIL 2A Area E Marching Contest. There were only 6 bands that advanced in their conference, but we want them to have an exceptional experience in Odem. We still have a handful of designated spots we need filled, as well as can use more hands around through the day. Mrs. Edwards has setup a sign-up genius here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48a9a92aaaffc16-region We will have a volunteer meeting at 11:00am Saturday to walk-through the duties and setup we need to complete. The first band warms up at 1:15pm, and the final performance will conclude at 3:30pm. With announcements of results and cleanup taking us to 5pm at the latest I believe. Please come volunteer and help us out! We expect our HS Band students to all be able to help through the day this weekend as well. There will be sign-up lists for them to sign-up for specific roles tomorrow in the Band Hall.
In class with the band we will begin a shift this week on working on concert music, as well as preparing for upcoming playoff games. Please plan for at least 11/12, 11/19 and possibly 11/26 to be required performances. For the 26th we do work with traveling students, but need everyone in town to come perform if we advance to that round of playoffs. We continue to perform at football games for as long as the Owls season continues! Next week on the 5th is the Bye week for the team, and we will have that Friday evening off.
Our trip payments/deposits need to be coming in at this time. As of this time we have enough students to make the trip happen, but are at the point where more students attending will help the overall price for everyone. If you have been on the fence on whether or not to send a deposit in I hope you will! Our band trips have consistently been one of the most amazing experiences for our students over the years! We can take those payments in the band hall, but we do need ALL parents, even if you are paying us via check to Owl Band Boosters, to go to this website: https://www.toursandtravelpaytrip.com/Reservation/TripReservation/247 and create a ‘New Reservation’ if you have not already done so. You may make one reservation for multiple kids, or chaperone/kid, there. The Tour Company wants to track forms and other payment information there. You may make online payments directly to them for a surcharge, or even mail payments directly to them (they do not charge a fee there). This week will be a busy week around the Band Hall, but we’ll try and provide more information soon on Trip Insurance. We have one company we’ve identified that seems good, but I want to shop around for prices a bit more before we settle on it. In the case of the company we are looking at the insurance needs to be purchased at least 60 days out from the trip, so we have some time there.
Once again, I would like to extend my own personal thanks to each and every student, parent, and volunteer who has helped out through our season this year. Regardless of result, we had a ‘Sweet’ show that was an amazing demonstration of our students’ abilities and hard work!
