Odem Bands Schedule Week of 10/17/2016

I hope this message finds you well as we enter into one of the most important weeks of the year for us, with UIL Region Marching Contest this week. Before we get to that information though I would like to congratulate the members of The Spirit of OHS for an outstanding performance on Saturday at the Robstown Crossroads Marching Contest! There were 10 bands competing in Class 3A, and a total of 32 bands at the competition. Odem High School won 1st Place for Class 3A at the competition, as well as the captions for Best Drum Majors and Best Percussion!

Overall the band placed 11th in a competition that featured 2 – 6A’s, 6 – 5A’s, 8 – 4A’s, 10 – 3A’s, and 6 – 2A bands. The Spirit of OHS placed higher than all but one of those 4A’s! This week it is imperative that we continue to improve as much as we have in the past few weeks as we look not only to our UIL performance this coming Saturday, but also our BOA Super-Regional Performance at the AlamoDome on Friday, November 4th.

The week before last each student received a packet for our annual Sponsorship Fundraiser. For students who will be traveling to Florida in 2018 they will receive credit towards their trip accounts. All other funds though are being directed towards bringing in clinicians on instruments for students in Grades 6-12, and building up monies to help with the Band Hall Split that will be coming up this next year. If every student would make the goal of $100/student we would be able to easily accomplish those last two goals.

The Region 14 UIL Marching Contest will take place on Saturday at Sinton HS. Admission for the contest is $5/person. We need at least as many parents to help as we had this past week please, as well as any junior high helpers that are able to come. We also need some parents to help us check pant lengths on Saturday at 3:00pm. Students will have the following schedule that day:

1:00pm  Report to Band Hall for Walkthrough at Stadium/Load Trailer and Truck

Senior Speeches

4:00pm Board Buses

4:15pm  Depart Band Hall

6:30pm Perform

10:00pm Announcement of Ratings

We very much prefer all students to stay for the Awards ceremony at this event. In the event that student does need to leave early they must be signed out immediately after we finish loading equipment. Students should bring some spending money for dinner at the concession stand or Dairy Queen.

Thank you to all who have turned in deposits for the trip so far. Please help us to receive those deposits by the end of this month. It is important that we have a clear idea of numbers as we begin to reach the point of signing contracts with our travel agency. Please contact me if you have any questions in regards to that trip. The $100 deposit should be made payable to the Owl Band Boosters.

We will host our Senior Band night next week, on October 28th before the game on the track. I will send out more details in regards to this event next week.

Tuesday: Band Hall Closes at 4:15pm

Wednesday: 5:00pm-6:00pm Evening Marching Rehearsal

Thursday: 6:30pm-8:30pm Evening Marching Rehearsal

Friday: Odem vs. Monte Alto (Home)

5:15pm Report to Band Hall (This is Football/Cheer Parent Night so we need to enter stadium early)

7:30pm Game Begins

Saturday: 1pm – Report to Band Hall

6:30pm Spirit of OHS Performs at Region Marching Contest (Sinton) (see above for more specific schedule)
