Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 10/23/2017 – Area Marching Band Contest
Congratulations to The Spirit of OHS for earning their 12th Consecutive Superior Rating at Marching Contest this past weekend!!! We are very proud of all of their hard work and look forward to advancing to the Area Contest this Saturday. At this time UIL has not sent out the schedule for Area yet, but based on a preliminary schedule we were given I believe that our Preliminary Performance time is at 9:30am. We need color guard students to be at the Band Hall at 4:30am and band students at 5:00am. We will be departing not long after students arrive at the Band Hall that morning.
Due to the very early time we will need to meet at the Band Hall, the distance to Cuero, and the distance to the game scheduled for Friday we have made the decision to not travel to Monte Alto this week. This is due to students not having a fair shot with little to no sleep, and also for drivers being able to be rested enough to safely travel to the contest. If you have questions in regards to this please contact me and I will do my best to answer them. Please understand that this was not a decision we made lightly, and all parties including Coach Huerta, Dr. Gonzales, Mrs. Alvarado, and others were involved before we took made this decision. We wish the players on the team the best of luck and know they will do well this week! The Spirit of OHS will perform at the Pep Rally on Thursday afternoon!
Area Marching Contest will be held at Cuero HS where we competed on the 14th of this month. Admission to the contest is set at $5 for the event. Finals will begin about 8pm with announcement of who advances to State to be announced at 10:45pm.
Friday we will have a rehearsal from 4pm-5:30pm. At the end of the rehearsal we will be packing the truck and trailer for the contest so that we do not have to worry about that in the morning on Saturday.
Additionally we will be short a few hands on Saturday and need extra help moving equipment Saturday. If you could please meet Mr. Williams at the Truck/Trailer at around 8am on Saturday.
The final thing to know for Saturday is that the forecast high currently is 63 Degrees for Cuero. A low of 43 is expected that day as well. I highly recommend that students plan to layer for the contest. Should we make finals that evening I recommend students be prepared to layer with a coat or a blanket after our performance. Students need to be careful with any layers they’ll wear underneath the uniform to avoid changing the appearance of the uniforms. A couple long sleeve shirts would do well for them should we perform at finals.

5:45am: Board Buses
7:30am: Arrive at Cuero
8:45am: Warm-Up
9:30am: Prelims Performance
10:30am: Depart for Yoakum Community Center. Lunch/downtime there
3:00pm: Return to Cuero Stadium
4:45pm: Announcement of Results
~8pm: Finals Begin
11:00pm: Awards Ceremony
