Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 11/11/2019
We would like to begin this week by saying thank you to the parents, teachers, alumni, community members, and Owl Football Team for their amazing support last week at the UIL State Marching Contest! The students had their best performance of the season and we are proud of them! Ultimately they finished the season 20th of the 204 3A Marching Bands in the State!
This week is going to be another busy week for us with the Odem Bands. Monday morning The Spirit of OHS will perform at the OEISD Veteran’s Day Ceremony, Wednesday the Odem JH Symphonic Winds, Screeching Owl Jazz Band, and Odem HS Bands will perform during the 1st Annual OEISD Feast of Kindness, and Thursday The Spirit of OHS will travel to support the Odem Owls at their playoff game vs. Stockdale in Victoria. Thursday will also be our final full performance of their 2019 Marching Show!
All of our performances are required mandatory, graded performances. Please make sure that your student is present for them!
Veteran’s Day Ceremony:
The members of The Spirit of OHS will check-in with their first period teacher and then report to the Band Hall to dress in their uniforms and begin the process of setting up at the stadium. The ceremony begins at 9am and we invite all Veteran’s to join us as we honor their service to our country!
Feast of Kindness:
Odem-Edroy ISD is inviting all of the community from around the district to join us for a Thanksgiving Meal on Wednesday from 5pm-8pm. Throughout the meal, students from K-12 will be providing entertainment for those that are eating. We are anticipating the following performance schedule:
5:00pm: Pledge/colors/SSB Kindergarten
5:15pm: 1st Grade
5:25pm: 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade
5:40pm: 4th Grade and 5th Grade
5:55pm: JH Theater
6:15pm: OJH Symphonic Winds Small Ensemble
6:30pm: OJH Symphonic Winds
7:00pm: OHS Theater
7:15pm: OHS Screeching Owl Jazz Band
7:30pm: Odem High School Band (All)
Due to the nature of how many students are involved in the performances we may have some flex in the schedules. Parents are encouraged to try and eat while their students are performing. We’ll have some outside projectors and screens in order to try and broadcast those performances to those waiting in the hallway/outside the HS Cafetorium. (The idea is that people eat their meal and then leave so spots are available for the next group.) We encourage students to eat when they’re not performing or supposed to be at the Band Hall to prepare. We will be practicing the students arrival, setup, and departure from the stage on Tuesday and Wednesday during the school day.
Call times (arrival) for the students should be as follows:
5:45pm: OJH Symphonic Winds
6:55pm: OHS Screeching Owl Jazz Band
7:05pm: OHS Band
All OHS Students will wear their Blue State Show Shirt/Blue Jeans (No Holes), OJH Symphonic Winds Members are to wear their OJH Band Shirt/Blue Jeans (No Holes). We have about 8 students in Symphonic Winds who have not paid for their shirts, that needs to be taken care of by Wednesday!
This is a new event for the district so we are making our best plans that we can. Please understand that with so many students involved some flexibility may be needed. We hope you will take advantage of this event though and join the district for a meal and some great entertainment by the students!
PLEASE NOTE: No Pass/No Play does not impact this CURRICULAR PERFORMANCE – All students involved in these groups are eligible and must perform!
Odem vs. Stockdale – Thursday:
Thursday the Odem HS Band will travel to Victoria for the Odem Owls Playoff Game vs. Stockdale. We will feed the students at 4pm and depart as soon as we have buses available around 5pm. Kick-Off is at 7pm and we anticipate we should arrive home around 11pm. Please note: The new six-weeks eligibility takes effect for this game, so students who receive a grade of less than 70 on their report cards in any class will not be able to participate in this game.
Please keep in mind we will continue to support and travel with the team for all playoff games. Most of the time they are on Fridays, but we could have one on Thursday or Friday evening the next week as well.
