Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 11/18/2019
We want to thank everyone for all of your help with the events last week, and through this past fall marching season! This week is going to be a much lighter week for the bands than we’ve been having the past few weeks! The only real event for students is the annual Senior Dinner that I put on for the seniors each year. We will have that on Thursday evening – I’ll speak to senior students more about that tomorrow.
For the rest of the bands, this week is free of events, but we will have the band halls open for practice each day after school. Please see the schedule below for those times. We do encourage students and parents to begin planning for their concert attire for the Winter Concert and Spring events that will be coming up in short order. The Odem Winter Concert featuring both JH and HS bands will be on December 16th. The OJH Bands will perform from 6:30pm-7:20pm, we’ll have a brief intermission and then the OHS Band will perform at 7:30pm. Please see the concert attire information below! The OHS Screeching Owl Jazz Band’s Winter Evening of Jazz will be the following evening on December 17th at 7pm.
A couple other events to note; the All-Region Auditions for all OJH Symphonic Winds Students, and the OHS students who sign up will have their auditions at West Oso HS on Saturday, December 7th. Those students who make the group will then rehearse and perform on December 13th and 14th. (Please note if students make the groups they must attend the Clinic/Concert. An exception to the morning rehearsal on the 14th may be made if students are taking the ACT. Those students should inform Mr. Rash so he can explain the procedure for returning to the Clinic/Concert)
Odem Bands Concert Attire:
Concert Attire OJH Students:
Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks, and tie (Preferably solid Navy Blue)
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes.
Concert Attire OHS Students:
Gentlemen: Black Long Sleeve Button Down Shirt (with top button unbuttoned), Black Slacks, Long Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes.
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes. (All Black, no colors)
2020 California Trip – Postponed:
Due to a lack of deposits we are postponing the 2020 Trip for Odem HS. We will be planning to travel to a big destination again in 2021 after we survey parents/students and determine the best destination for that trip. (It may or may not be California still) Student payments towards this years trip will be refunded/or may be applied to a smaller trip we would like to take in May in its place. We will provide information about that trip hopefully by the end of this coming week. Refunds will be processed around December 3rd’s Band Booster Meeting.
This was not an easy decision to make, but we have decided it is in our students best interest to do so. Please contact Mr. Rash with any questions/concern you may have.

Monday: 4:30pm – Band Hall Closes (Students may practice for Region until then)
Tuesday: 5:00pm – Band Hall Closes for Region Meeting Setup
Wednesday: 5:00pm – Band Hall Closes
Thursday: 5:30pm Senior Dinner
Friday: 4:30pm – Band Hall Closes – ALL INSTRUMENTS SHOULD GO HOME OVER BREAK!
