Odem Bands Schedule Week of 12/10/2018 – Winter Concert and All-Region
We would like to begin this week by congratulating the 21 OJH and 14 OHS Students for earning spots in the All-Region Bands this weekend! Additionally 9 of our students advanced to the Area Round of Auditions for Odem High School! It was a good day and the students should be very proud of their accomplishments! Please see the All-Region Clinic/Concert area below for more information on the event this weekend.
First up this week for the Odem Bands though will be their Annual Winter Concert on Thursday evening! The concerts are set to begin at 6:30pm for Odem Junior High and 7:30pm for Odem High School – both concerts will be held in the Odem HS Cafetorium. Their call times to be at the school are:
5:45pm – Odem JH Beginning Band Students on stage
6:00pm – Odem JH Concert Band in OHS Band Hall
6:15pm – Odem JH Symphonic Winds in OHS Band Hall
7:00pm – OHS Band in Band Hall
Concert Attire OJH Students:
Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks, and tie (Preferably solid Navy Blue)
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes.
Concert Attire OHS Students:
Gentlemen: Black Long Sleeve Button Down Shirt (with top button unbuttoned), Black Slacks, Long Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes.
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes. (All Black, no colors)
Please note the concert is a mandatory and graded event for all Odem Band Students!

Odem JH Beginning Band Rehearsal:
Please note that the OJH Beginning Band also has a rehearsal on December 12th after school until 5pm at the OHS Cafetorium. This will be the only time they are able to rehearse with all of the classes together and is a mandatory graded event. Please make arrangements for rides so that students can attend. Students will need to be picked up in front of Odem HS.
All-Region Clinic/Concert:
Friday we will depart with the Odem HS Band students around 2pm and eat an early dinner on the TAMUK campus before their rehearsal. Odem JH Band Students will meet in their Band Hall after school and dinner will be provided for them there before they leave. All students will follow the same rehearsal schedule in Kingsville on Friday/Saturday. We will return Friday night and need students to be dropped off at their Band Halls by 7am on Saturday to return to Kingsville. We will provide lunch on Saturday and Dinner Friday for the students.
The concerts begin at 3:30pm on Saturday in TAMUK Jones Auditorium. Shirts/Plaques are available before/during/after the concert in the lobby. We encourage you to come and see your student perform and pick them up afterwards to take them out to celebrate afterwards. There were over 900 students that competed in the contest Saturday, and your students are among the elite who were chosen for that honor! Any students who remain should bring some money to buy something on the way home for dinner.
The concert order is: HS Wind Ensemble(@3:30pm), JH Blue Band(~4pm), JH Red Band(~4:30pm), JH Wind Ensemble(~5pm), HS Blue Band(~5:30pm, and HS Red Band(~6pm) will finish the performances. I’ve listed approximate times above, actual times will vary depending on the length of the bands programs and the time it takes to transition between groups.
Odem JH ended up with 21 members in the groups, which was the 3rd most of the 31 registered junior high schools. They had the most students within their classification of 1C, and 2nd largest number of students to earn spots in the Wind Ensemble overall. Odem HS had 14 members earn spots in the All-Region Bands, with 9 of those advancing to the Area Round. They had the 3rd largest number of students in the HS Wind Ensemble, and students advancing to Area (most Wind Ensemble and Area students in our Classification!). We also had OJH Student Kalista Ocana earn 1st Chair Trumpet, OHS Students Zenaida Lara earn 1st Chair Clarinet, and Abaigeal Tovar earned 1st Chair Oboe.
