We would like to begin this week by congratulating The Spirit of OHS on their outstanding performance yesterday at the UIL Area E Marching Band Championships! For the 5^th Consecutive time they have been named an Area Finalist Band! Ultimately, they finished 7^th in the contest, but in a normal year would have had a finals round to compete one last time. Two of the judges ranked them 3^rd out of the 14 bands that managed to make it to the contest this year. We are beyond proud of the students for working through the incredible obstacles that have been thrown at them this season! 

This week they will be focusing on transitioning to ‘sit-down’ band and taking their semester exam on Thursday. 

By Wednesday we will also have results from our 29 students who competed in the Virtual All-Region Audition Process. I will send those results out before the end of the week so that we can acknowledge those students who successfully auditioned for the region bands.

Finally we were scheduled to have the Odem JH Bands Winter Concert on Tuesday. Last week we looked at the situation with students being out for various reasons and determined it would be in our students’ best interest to postpone the concert until after our break. We are rescheduling that concert for Tuesday, January 19^th. We will provide additional information about the performance as we close in on that date after break. We appreciate your understanding about the performance. We feel that this was the best choice to allow students to have a successful performance they could be proud of!

Instrument Pick-Up:

For all students in the Odem Bands it is imperative that their instruments are taken home over the break. They should take them home the day of their semester exam at the JH, or the final day we have class if they have exempted their band exam at the high school. We want to ensure that instruments are safely at home over the break, and available for students to practice and complete work in case anything were to change in school plans. (2020 has taught us to make sure we keep our options there!)

Thursday:            Band Hall Closes at 4pm (Instruments Picked up for OJH 4^th Period Band)
Friday:                 No School for Students
