Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 12/5/2022

We would like to begin this week by congratulating the students in the Odem JH and Odem HS Bands who competed at the All-Region auditions this past week! Odem JH had 22 students earn chairs in the All-Region Bands, with three first chair players, and Odem HS had 23 students earn chairs in the All-Region Bands – the most of any 3A Band on Saturday! We are proud of each of these students and will list those results in the section below! The students who made bands will be leaving Friday at the end of the day to travel to Texas A&M University Kingsville to rehearse with the All-Region Bands. We’ll return that night and then drive back there on Saturday morning. The JH concerts begin for our students about 2pm that day, and the HS concerts begin at 3:30pm. Please see the Region section below for more information!

Before that, on Thursday, we will have our Annual Odem HS Winter Concert on Thursday at 6:30pm. Students will need to be setup in the HS Band Hall for warm-up at 6pm that night. Concert Black (as listed below) is the attire for that concert.

We’ll then have the Odem JH Winter Concert NEXT Tuesday, beginning at 6:30pm. Then it’ll be one final event on the evening on that Saturday after school lets out when we perform for the Odem Christmas Parade. I will get more information to students about the parade later this week.

This last part of the semester gets very busy, so please help us make sure students are getting to performances! All performances are mandatory and graded events.

All-Region Results

As I mentioned above, Odem had a very good showing at the JH and HS levels for our All-Region contests this past week. In the Junior High we had three 1^st Chairs: Michelle Rogers on Oboe, Vincent Elizondo on Euphonium, and Eva Garcia on Trombone. At the high school level Lillan Kiefer on Oboe, and Savannah Beltran on Clarinet earned their 1^st Chair spots. Additionally Emma Doria, Abigael Ferguson, and Adrian Aguirre join the two of them in advancing to the Area Round on January 7^th, when they will compete for a spot in the All-State Band! We’re proud of each of these students!

Friday we’ll depart in the afternoon, and students rehearse from 5pm-8:30pm at TAMUK, and we will feed them dinner before that rehearsal. Saturday we’ll need students at their respective Band Halls at 7:00am, and should have their concert clothes with them to change into. Students will have lunch paid for on Saturday. We very much encourage parents to come and see their students perform on Saturday! The larger junior highs will begin the concert at 1:00pm, so I would advise getting there a bit early. This is a mandatory performance for all HS Band students (eligibility does not apply to concerts). Students need to wear their concert clothes, listed below, for this concert. We invite all of your families to attend what should be a fun concert!

This is a mandatory performance for all Odem JH Band students (eligibility does not apply to concerts). Students need to wear their concert clothes, listed below, for this concert. We invite all of your families to attend what should be a fun concert!

Concert Attire requirements are listed here. Please let us know if there is a concern or you need assistance locating concert apparel.

Odem JH:

Ladies: Black Blouse/Black Slacks/Dress Shoes (Blouses need to have some sort of sleeve that extends past the shoulder, and should not be low cut)
Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes, and Tie (Preferably solid navy blue, but any tie will work)

Odem HS:

2024 Odem HS Trip to Cleveland

Before the break we met and discussed our 2024 Trip to Cleveland, OH that was approved. You may find the trip packet here: https://tinyurl.com/3drm8zfu Some highlights of the trip: Broadway Show at Playhouse Square, Performance at World Famous Severance Hall, day at Cedar Point, Cleveland Museum of Art, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Niagara Falls.

We have received the registration information from our tour company for payments and signing up for the trip. We need all travelers to please register by January 10th. Deposits are due by January 17th. It’s important we have a full and accurate count of travelers as early as we can. Also please not the initial price I’m seeing on the attached form, and may be on the website, is missing airfare and charter buses. We’re budgeting $475 per person for airfare and the bus is also included in that total of $1900 that we are currently expect, but that may fluctuate higher or lower by then.
