Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 12-9-2019
We would like to begin this busy week of information by congratulating our students on their outstanding showing at Region Auditions yesterday. Odem JH had 13 students make the Region Bands, with 4 members earning spots in the Region Wind Ensemble. Odem HS earned 11 spots in the Region Bands, with 6 students advancing to the Area Contest and a chance at membership in the All-State Bands! All of the students who earned spots will travel to Kingsville on Friday and Saturday to rehearse and perform with the bands. Please see below for more information about the event.
We will have our Winter Concert for the Odem JH Bands on Thursday of this week. The Beginning Band will rehearse Wednesday after school until 5pm at the Odem HS Cafetorium. Please note: This rehearsal and the concert are mandatory graded events Please see the section below for information on concert attire and call times for students. The Odem HS Concert will be next Monday.
Finally we will have a booster meeting on Wednesday at 6:30pm in the HS Band Hall. Please come join us so we can discuss a number of upcoming events including trips.
Corpus Christi Wind Symphony Concert:
Tomorrow (Monday, December 9th) the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony will open their season at 7:30pm at Del Mar College’s Richardson Hall. The concert is Free and would be a great opportunity for students to hear one of the finest community bands in the State. Concert pieces will include some holiday favorites and an arrangement of Star Wars that is a transcription of the end credits from the original movie (Episode IV). In particular for HS students this is a way to meet the concert attendance requirements of being nominated as a Texas Music Scholar this spring. It’ll be a great concert that I hope some students might be able to attend!
OJH Winter Concert, December 12th:
The OJH Beginning Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Winds will perform their Winter Concert Beginning at 6:30pm on December 12th. OJH Beginning Band must be on OHS Stage by 5:45am, OJH Concert Band in Band Hall by 6pm, and OJH Symphonic Winds waiting on Patio to come in (providing weather is decent, inside band hall if not) at 6:20pm.
Please note that the OJH Beginning Band also has a rehearsal on Wednesday after school until 5pm at the OHS Cafetorium. This will be the only time they are able to rehearse with all of the classes together and is a mandatory graded event. Please make arrangements for rides so that students can attend.

OJH Student Concert Attire:
Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks, and tie (Preferably solid Navy Blue)
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes.
All-Region Clinic/Concert:
Friday we plan to depart with the Odem HS Band students around 2pm and eat an early dinner on the TAMUK campus before their rehearsal. We are going to look at the Odem JH band students schedule tomorrow and provide that by Tuesday. We may take them at the same time as the HS students this year. All students will follow the same rehearsal schedule in Kingsville on Friday/Saturday. We will return Friday night and need students to be dropped off at their Band Halls by 7am on Saturday to return to Kingsville. We will provide lunch on Saturday and Dinner Friday for the students.
The concerts begin at 3:30pm on Saturday in TAMUK Jones Auditorium. Shirts/Plaques are available before/during/after the concert in the lobby. We encourage you to come and see your student perform and pick them up afterwards to take them out to celebrate afterwards. There were 900 students that competed in the contest Saturday, and your students are among the elite who were chosen for the honor of being in the All-Region Bands! Any students who remains should bring some money to buy something on the way home for dinner.
The concert order is: HS Wind Ensemble(@3:30pm), JH Blue Band(~4pm), JH Red Band(~4:30pm), JH Wind Ensemble(~5pm), HS Blue Band(~5:30pm, and HS Red Band(~6pm) will finish the performances. I’ve listed approximate times above, actual times will vary depending on the length of the bands programs and the time it takes to transition between groups.

Odem HS Winter Concert, December 16th:
The Odem HS Winter Concert will be held on Monday, December 16th. Students will need to be in the Band Hall ready to warmup at 7pm. Their concert will begin in the Cafetorium at 7:30pm.

Gentlemen: Black Long Sleeve Button Down Shirt (with top button unbuttoned), Black Slacks, Long Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes.
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes. (All Black, no colors)
Screeching Owl Jazz Band 11th Annual Winter Evening of Jazz – December 17th
The Screeching Owl Jazz Band will conclude the Odem Bands Concert Season on Tuesday, December 17th at 7pm in the OHS Cafetorium. As always it’s a fantastic evening of holiday favorites, jazz standards, and desserts! We hope you’ll keep this date on your calendar!
