Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 2/11/2022
This week we’ll be focusing on our final rehearsals leading into UIL on the 19th-21st. Please note that we go to contest with the Odem JH Bands the very day we come back from the four-day weekend this week! Odem JH Concert Band students must be at the JH Band Hall dressed in their concert clothes by 7am that morning! Odem JH Symphonic Winds students will leave after lunch. Odem High School’s Symphonic Band will perform at UIL on Wednesday, and the HS Wind Ensemble performs on Thursday. Below I have listed more specific times to be aware of. It is imperative that all students are dressed in their concert clothes so we look uniform on that day!
We are holding our rehearsals and meetings with HS students interested in Color Guard or Leadership Team positions. We will be having Leadership meetings this week on Monday and Wednesday. Guard will meet Monday and Thursday after school. Additionally, we are suggesting HS Leadership Team members beyond drum majors would find it beneficial to attend the camp at Texas A&M University Commerce with us this year. We need a head count of any interest this week for that! They run a really solid leadership camp alongside the Drum Major and Guard offerings that would help our program to have students attend!
For our HS Band Students attending the trip to Florida, the deadline to finish paying off the trip is this Tuesday. Please contact me if this is an issue so we can work out a solution! Room lists were made and turned in this week. Trip payments may be sent in a check/money order to the Owl Band Boosters and brought to Mr. Rash, or they may be paid directly through TMF Tours Website! There will be a MANDATORY TRIP MEETING for students and a parent on Tuesday, May 3rd at 7pm in the HS Cafetorium. We will go over trip rules, the final itinerary, packing information, and answer questions at that time.
UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation
The two Odem JH Bands and two Odem HS Bands will be participating in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation at Sinton HS next week, April 19-21st. This is a mandatory event for those members, and students will leave for a few hours during the school day. Odem JH Concert Band students will need a ride early in the morning on Tuesday to be at the Band Hall by 7am. Odem JH Symphonic Winds students will need picked up after school, as we anticipate returning after buses run that day.
Both Odem HS Bands will be able to arrive at school as normal, but the Odem HS Wind Ensemble students will have a mandatory rehearsal on Wednesday (20th) from 3:30pm-5:00pm. We have scheduled that rehearsal to make up for the four day weekend and not having directors at school on Tuesday and Wednesday during class. Please help us ensure students are at these events!

UIL is a public and open event for you to attend. You are more than welcome to come watch your students perform on that day! When we finish our performance on stage we will be led down to the Band Hall for Sight-Reading. At that time you are encouraged to follow us and see the Sight-Reading process, but just please note no photos, video, or audio recording is allowed.

Ladies: Black Blouse and Black Slacks (No Jeans!) with black shoes.
Gentlemen: White Button-Down Shirt, Black Slacks (No Jeans!), Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks, Black Belt, and a tie (Preferably navy blue

Owl Band Booster Meeting
Tuesday we will host our monthly Band Booster meeting. Among things on the agenda will be nominations for officers for next year. If you are able to help and can attend we would appreciate seeing some new faces to help us carry on the organization for years to come! Contact Mandi Edwards if you have any questions or concerns!
2022 Summer Band Schedule
You may find our 2022 Summer Band Schedule at the link below, as well as listed our major competition dates for the fall at the bottom. Please note that Summer Band is mandatory for participation in The Spirit of OHS! If a conflict arises with a date we ask that you reach out to us early so we can be aware, and maybe make something work out to make multiple things happen. We try and be as flexible as possible on many things, but with marching band it is important to have every spot on the field covered. (Any missing members in drill can result in deductions for us as a band at contests!)
Please help us make sure students have the best possibility of being successful this next year!
Windi and Jazzi 2022
Tickets are now available for Windi and Jazzi that will be held on May 7th here at this site: https://odemhsband.ludus.com/index.php This has become an annual dinner/concert to benefit the bands that we look forward to presenting each year! This year’s theme is ‘Night On Broadway’ and will feature music from a number of hit musicals, as well as some other works performed by the HS Band Students. This event benefits the Band Boosters and helps us raise funds program wide by ticket sales and the silent auction we hold simultaneously. Please be on the lookout for information about this event coming soon, and we ask that if you have a business that you own or work for that might be able to contribute that you reach out to them.
We need those basket items in as soon as possible please!

Odem JH 8th Graders – BBQ Basket (BBQ Sauces, Tongs/Spatulas, Recipes, Aprons, Grill Accessories, Canned items, Condiments, etc.)
This event has done quite well for us in the past! Tickets are $15-$25 per ticket depending on the seating type/location, and comes with a choice of Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken, Sides, a drink, and dessert along with the great entertainment! Please help us make this the best year yet for this event!
2022 Orlando Trip
Final trip payments are due this week on Tuesday, April 12th. If you haven’t turned that in please do so! The link below will allow you to make payments directly to them.
You may also pay the Owl Band Boosters via Check or Money Order turned into the Band Hall Office or brought to the Band Booster Meeting next Tuesday.
I sent statements home via email and hard copy last week – please let me know if you see any questions or concerns on them. I’m waiting for a current list of payments that have been issued directly to TMF since the update I had at the beginning of March to send my next one.
