Odem Bands Schedule Week of 2-26-2018
This next week-and-a-half are going to be very busy for us with the Odem Bands as we enter into the final time before our UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. Tomorrow night, Monday, we will have our Pre-UIL Contest Concert in the HS Cafetorium at 6:30pm. OJH Symphonic Winds Members should be at the Cafetorium on stage at 5:45pm. OHS Wind Ensemble Members should be in the Band Hall by 6:00pm. All students must be dressed in their concert dress clothes! Please see below for the list of clothing for each group. Concert attire is required for UIL the following week as well!
OJH Students:
Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks, and tie (Preferably solid Navy Blue)
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes.
OHS Students:
Gentlemen: Black Long Sleeve Button Down Shirt (with top button unbuttoned), Black Slacks, Long Black Socks, Black Dress Shoes.
Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black shoes. (All Black, no colors)
(With OHS students that have sports practices we will work with them if needed)

TAMUCC Islander Honor Band:
We have 14 OHS students that will be representing Odem HS at the TAMUCC Islander Honor Band this weekend. We will leave school immediately following high school band class on Friday. They will need $25 for the fee in cash or check made payable to TAMUCC Music Department. Students also need to bring money for dinner on campus that night. We will cover dinner the next day, but they will need money for lunch as well on Saturday. Friday we should be home around 10pm. Saturday students will need to be at the band hall by 7:50am to go back to TAMUCC to rehearse.
These students will perform in a joint concert with the TAMUCC Band at 7:30pm Saturday evening at their amazing Performing Arts Center Auditorium. We encourage parents to come attend the concert and pickup the students afterwards. Thursday I’ll need to know if any students are not getting picked up to make appropriate plans. If we bring a bus of students back we should be back in Odem around 10pm that night. For the concert students should bring their Concert Black Concert Attire with them on Saturday.
This honor band is led by Dr. Brian Shelton who does an amazing job! Definitely one of the more enjoyable honor band experiences for a high school student in our area to have!
UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest:
Last night we received the preliminary schedule for the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest we will be attending in Goliad next week on Tuesday, March 6th. Due to the distance to Goliad we will be taking both the JH and HS Band at the same time. We will be working through more details this week, but for your planning purposes OJH Symphonic Winds is scheduled to perform at 11am, and the OHS Wind Ensemble is scheduled to perform at 2:45pm. We plan on sending the OJH Symphonic Winds back to school after lunch. The OHS Wind Ensemble should return around 4:30pm.
UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contests are Free and open to the public. We encourage you to attend if you are able! You may travel with us to the Sight-Reading room with us as well. Just please not that no photos or videos may be taken in the sight-reading room.

Note: OJH Concert Band will be performing on April 4th at the San Diego HS site.
Trip Payments:
All trip accounts should be at $1,100 before spring break. It’s imperative that payments come in as we need to be making our payments to the trip company.
Band Fees:
Last week students received statements of band fees. We have a number of fall fees that are unpaid, as well as a large number of Spring Fees that are still due. Please help us make sure we have all of those cleared this week.

Thursday: Odem Open House
OHS Wind Ensemble Rehearsal 7pm-8:30pm
Friday: TAMUCC Islander Honor Band Day 1 (Depart ~2pm – Return around 10pm)
Saturday: TAMUCC Islander Honor Band Day 2 (Depart 7:50am – Return around 10pm)
