We would like to begin this week by congratulating our students on outstanding performances this past week at the UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Competition! We had 19 medalists at Odem JH, and 19 Medalists at Odem High School as well! Two of our ensembles, a Clarinet Quartet, and a Brass Choir, both advanced to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest that will be held in late May. Please see the section below for full results!

Our big event this week for the bands will be on Saturday, when the Odem HS Wind Ensemble will receive a clinic from TAMUCC Faculty in the TAMUCC Performing Arts Center at 1pm. This is an amazing opportunity for us to play in one of the five best halls in the state! We need every student to be present at this mandatory event. Following their clinic we will be taking a tour of the campus, go somewhere for dinner (TBA), and then return to watch the TAMUCC Symphonic Winds Concert that evening. We should return about 9:30pm-10pm Saturday night to the High School. 

Below in the section about Windi and Jazzi I have placed the themes for each section at the high school, and grades at the JH basket. We build baskets with one item from each student within a theme and then auction it off at our silent auction. This is one of our largest fundraisers outside of the concession stand for the boosters each year. We ask that you please help us bring a $10 item within the theme. We will accept larger items/donations too if you know of anyone that might be able to contribute!

Finally, there is important information in the Orlando trip section regarding Trip Insurance Options. To register for the insurance, we have found plans will need to be purchased by this Thursday online. See the section for details.

Windi and Jazzi 2022

Tickets are now available for Windi and Jazzi that will be held on May 7^th here at this site: https://odemhsband.ludus.com/index.php  This has become an annual dinner/concert to benefit the bands that we look forward to presenting each year! This year’s theme is ‘Night On Broadway’ and will feature music from a number of hit musicals, as well as some other works performed by the HS Band Students. This event benefits the Band Boosters and helps us raise funds program wide by ticket sales and the silent auction we hold simultaneously. Please be on the lookout for information about this event coming soon, and we ask that if you have a business that you own or work for that might be able to contribute that you reach out to them. 

We will be asking each student in grades 6-12 to help with contributing one item to baskets that we will be auctioning off by theme. We would like items turned into the Band Halls by Thursday, March 10^th.

This event has done quite well for us in the past! Tickets are $15-$25 per ticket depending on the seating type/location, and comes with a choice of Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken, Sides, a drink, and dessert along with the great entertainment! Please help us make this the best year yet for this event!

2022 Orlando Trip

Trip Insurance (IMPORTANT NEW INFO):

We have identified an option for Trip Insurance for students for this trip. Interested parents should go to this website to see the plans available. https://www.safeendeavor.com/basic-plan/ There is a Basic plan for $30 and a slightly more expensive plan for $50. There is some variation on what each plan covers, and I recommend researching the information to see what fits best for you. Plans need to be purchased by this Thursday, March 3^rd to be valid for their 90 days out. 

A fifth trip payment should have been made this month. If you haven’t turned that in please do so! The link below will allow you to make payments directly to them.

UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Results

Odem Junior High and Odem High School students competed Thursday at the UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Competition in Robstown at Seale JH. At this contest we had a fantastic showing from students at both campuses! Odem JH set a new record for Medals today, bringing back 19 Medals with 5 Soloists and 2 Ensembles earning Superior Ratings! For Odem HS we had a total of 19 Medals as well, with 2 Gold Soloist Medals, 1 Bronze Soloist Medal, and 2 Ensembles earning Gold Medals! 

Odem High School advanced their Clarinet Quartet and Brass Choirs to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest that will take place in late May! (May 29^th-30^th in Pflugerville)

We are so proud of every single student that performed today whether they medaled or not! Today was a fantastic return to an in-person UIL Solo and Ensemble contest for the first time since 2020! We look forward to all of these students continued growth and upcoming performances! 

Wind Ensemble at TAMUCC

Students that are members of the Odem HS Wind Ensemble will participate in a clinic at TAMUCC on Saturday. Students need to be at the HS dressed in their concert clothes by 11am. We will depart for the university then and have time on stage from 1pm-2:15pm with three members of their faculty. 

Following their performance we will be taking a tour of the university, going to dinner, and then returning to watch the Texas A&M University Corpus Christi Symphonic Winds perform. We will return about 10pm following their concert. (Please note we are very tentative on that time, we will have students send a message to their parents when we are on the way home for rides.
