Odem Bands Schedule Week of 2/22/2016

This week we will have several items to note for the Odem Bands. We will be starting a fundraiser beginning tomorrow selling Discount Cards. We are asking that as many students participate in this fundraiser as possible. Please see below for more information. Thursday we will have an evening rehearsal for Carnegie Hall preparation again. We will continue to meet on Thursdays again each week for a while.

Additionally I would like to once again congratulate the students who participated in the UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Contest last week! Bringing home 17 medals for Odem HS and 16 medals for Odem JH was a great day as we get this part of our program running again. I believe over the long term we will find that Solo and Ensemble can be one of the best ways for us to improve student musicianship!

We will pass out cards first to the Odem HS band students tomorrow, and the remaining cards to students in the Junior High Bands over the next day. We very much need to raise the money this fundraiser can bring in to our program by selling all of the cards. We have 500 cards to start with. Each card is $20 and some of the following discounts listed on the back of it:

Additional deals are available through www.xtramandiscounts.com by putting your zip code in and printing them off through their website. Some that pop up through the Corpus Christi Area include: PacSun, Express, Aero, Men’s Wearhouse, Cinemark Dollar Cinemas, and Texas Roadhouse. The cards expire at the end of February 2017.

This fundraiser has a very good profit margin providing we sell out of the cards. Students will be responsible for any cards they sign out. If you can let your student know a count of how many you would like to sell that would be helpful. They need to return the money, or any unsold cards, by Friday, March 4th. All money needs to be turned in via Check or Money Order Payable to OEISD, Memo: Band Fundraiser.

Thank you to everyone who has caught up on payments or paid off your students trips. We were able to make our final payment to DCINY for the Carnegie Hall Performance and Percussion Equipment Rental. We are also making a large payment to the rest of the portion of the trip this month. We have approximately $13k that will be due by the first of April, and then the charter buses to San Antonio and back, along with another meal that I am hoping to include. Please make the final payments as soon as you are able so that we may get our final bills paid off here.

Currently we are planning on recording our final approval recording to DCINY on Thursday, April 7th. It is imperative that students are there for that recording. I am anticipating we will complete the recording around 8:30pm when we will begin our trip meeting with a parent for each student and all chaperones present.

Please remember we do have our rehearsal this Thursday from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Every student participating in the trip needs to be there. I am aware that there may be some softball/baseball tournaments that may conflict. I’ll work with those students as always!

Friday March 4th and 5th Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is hosting an Honors Band that will rehearse that evening and perform on Saturday at the TAMUCC Performing Arts Center. We are happy to announce we have Nine students that will be participating: Breanna Luna, Lilibeth Barra, Sabrina Childress, Lesley Barra, Natalie Stanley, Ethan Tracy, Noah Villarreal, John Pizana, and Andres Serrano will represent Odem HS at this event! I will send out more information about the concert next week.
