Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 3/25/2019
This is going to be a very busy week for the Odem Bands. Before I get into the schedule for this week I wish to give an update on the 2020 OHS Band Trip. We currently only have 22 of a minimum of 30 students signed up for the trip. Ideally I would prefer to travel with at least 40 students though. I had hoped that when Tax Season hit we might see more deposits, but that hasn’t happened at this time. As such we are exploring potential changes to the 2020 Trip to try and raise the level of participation. Thursday we will have our Pre-UIL Contest Concert at the Odem HS Cafetorium. All students in the OJH Concert Band, OJH Symphonic Winds, OHS Symphonic Band, OHS Wind Ensemble, and OHS Screeching Owl Jazz Band will perform their contest programs that evening. This is a mandatory graded event for all of those students. Please see the information about the concert below for Concert Attire, Student Call Times, and Performance Times.
Friday will be our TAMUK Jazz Festival performance for the OHS Jazz Band. Please see the section below for more information on that event.
Thursday – Pre-UIL Contest Concert:
Our Pre-UIL Contest Concert on Thursday is one of our most useful tools for preparing students for UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. Students should arrive at the Band Hall by the Call Times listed below. We have placed their performance times to the right of that. Students will use the side gate by bus entrance to enter the back of the school before their performance.
Concert Attire:
JH Gentlemen – White Button Down Shirt, Tie (pref. solid navy blue), Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Dress Shoes, and Black Socks.
JH Ladies – Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black Dress Shoes
HS Gentlemen – Black Dress Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Belt, Black Dress Shoes and Black Socks
HS Ladies – Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black Dress Shoes

TAMUK Jazz Festival:
Friday the Odem HS Screeching Owl Jazz Band will perform the TAMUK Jazz Festival at 3:10pm at TAMUK Jones Auditorium. We will eat dinner around the campus and students should bring money for that meal. We may be staying for that nights concert of three of the TAMUK groups that will also feature the awards ceremony for our classification. We should return around 10pm that evening if we stay. We may adjust this plan due to Prom the next evening. We will not be able to have a bus to return home until around 6pm regardless though due to bus routes.
Windi and Jazzi:
I encourage you to order your tickets for Windi and Jazzi soon at http://odemhsband.ludus.com. There you can pick your seats out and pay easily. You may also purchase tickets through students, and Mr. Rash in the Band Hall. We ask that students turn in their ticket order forms by next week on April 3rd. Please help us sell this event out! (Tickets should be paid for via check/money order made out to Owl Band Boosters if paid for directly to students or band hall) Tickets are $15 for the longer outside tables, $20 for the middle circular tables, or $25 for the Back tables with chairs. (If you would like the $25 seats I recommend ordering online soon as they sold out first last year!)
We also need basket items for the silent auction that will be held at Windi and Jazzi. If your student didn’t bring something last week please send something this week by Friday if possible. We ask that every student contribute one $10 themed item to their basket. The Boosters are also seeking donations of restaurant gift cards and other items to also include and bundle in the silent auction.
The silent auction themes for this year are:
Flutes – Cookies, Oboe – Baking, Clarinets – Movie Night, Saxophones – ‘Birthday’, Trumpets/Horn – Scentsy, Trombones/Euphonium – ‘As Seen on TV’, Tubas – Crafts, Percussion – Camping
The 8th Grade Band Members theme is ‘Crockpot Meals’ (Recipe Books, Broth, Grocery Cards, Spoons, Spatulas, Crockpots, etc), and the 7th Grade Band Members theme is BBQ.
Windi and Jazzi is a great event that we hope to continue to grow each year into a major fundraiser for the Odem Band Program. Please help support this event with a great meal and great music!
