Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 3/28/2022
This week starts off right from the start with our Pre-UIL Concert. All 7-12th Grade students have their mandatory Pre-UIL Concert Performance tomorrow, March 28th. In order to help facilitate JH Baseball games we are going to start at 5pm for Odem JH Concert Band, followed by about 5:15-5:20pm Odem JH Symphonic Winds will begin. Students may leave following the concert. Odem HS will begin our concerts at 6pm with the Odem HS Symphonic Band, and then the Odem HS Wind Ensemble about 6:20pm. Students will need their concert attire for this event! Specific call times for the performance are listed below!
During this past week two of our HS Band members and their family lost their home to a fire. The Owl Band Boosters and FFA are working together to host a benefit for them this coming Saturday. We will be selling hamburger meals in front of the high school entrance for $10 per meal. Included will be chips, a snack, burger, and condiments. We will accept donations for the family that day as well. We have planned to sell 320 or so meals, and hope you will help us make this a great turnout. Sales begin at 11:30am and we’re planning to continue until 1:30pm or we’re sold out. Our band is a family, and we want to help out our family as much as we can here! This afternoon (Sunday 27th) at 4pm, a great free concert will take place at Flour Bluff HS Auditorium with The Corpus Christi Wind Symphony. This concert begins at 4pm and is Free for Admission. A community band made of up of band directors, professional musicians, and other local musicians, it has long been considered one of the best community bands around!
Last week we met initially with students interested in Color Guard or Leadership Team positions. We will be having another Leadership meeting this week on Wednesday, and then Guard on Thursday. Moving forward the following week leadership will be Mondays and Wednesdays, Guard will be Mondays and Thursdays.
For our HS Band Students attending the trip to Florida there are a number of trip deadlines approaching. Students should have been paid up to at least $700 in their accounts before the break. Please contact me if this was an issue so we can work out a solution! Room lists are due by the end of this month. Trip payments may be sent in a check/money order to the Owl Band Boosters and brought to Mr. Rash, or they may be paid directly through TMF Tours Website!
Below in the section about Windi and Jazzi you will find the themes for each section at the high school, and grades at the JH basket. We build baskets with one item from each student within a theme and then auction it off at our silent auction. This is one of our largest fundraisers outside of the concession stand for the boosters each year. We ask that you please help us bring a $10 item within the theme. We will accept larger items/donations too if you know of anyone that might be able to contribute! We are asking for these items to be brought in by Friday of this week!
Pre-UIL Concert Information (March 28th)
Tomorrow (Monday, March 28th) Odem JH Concert Band students will need to be at Odem HS in their seats in the Cafetorium at 4:30pm for warm-up. Their performance will start at 5pm. Odem JH Symphonic Winds will need to be in the Odem HS Band Hall ready to play by 4:40pm for their warm-up time.
Odem HS Symphonic Band Members will need to be on-stage for their warm-up at 5:35pm, or following the Odem JH Symphonic Winds performance. Odem HS Wind Ensemble members need to be in their seats in the main band hall at 5:45pm. Students need to be in their concert dress clothes for this event.
Odem JH:
Ladies: Black Blouse and Black Slacks with black shoes.
Gentlemen: White Button-Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Dress Shoes, Black Socks, Black Belt, and a tie (Preferably navy blue)
Odem HS:
Black Blouse/Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, and Black shoes.
Please note that every student MUST attend their Pre-UIL performance. It is a major grade for the six weeks!
2022 Summer Band Schedule
I have attached our 2022 Summer Band Schedule to this email, as well as listed our major competition dates for the fall at the bottom. Please note that Summer Band is mandatory for participation in The Spirit of OHS! If a conflict arises with a date we ask that you reach out to us early so we can be aware, and maybe make something work out to make multiple things happen. We try and be as flexible as possible on many things, but with marching band it is important to have every spot on the field covered. (Any missing members in drill can result in deductions for us as a band at contests!)
Please help us make sure students have the best possibility of being successful this next year!

Windi and Jazzi 2022
Tickets are now available for Windi and Jazzi that will be held on May 7th here at this site: https://odemhsband.ludus.com/index.php This has become an annual dinner/concert to benefit the bands that we look forward to presenting each year! This year’s theme is ‘Night On Broadway’ and will feature music from a number of hit musicals, as well as some other works performed by the HS Band Students. This event benefits the Band Boosters and helps us raise funds program wide by ticket sales and the silent auction we hold simultaneously. Please be on the lookout for information about this event coming soon, and we ask that if you have a business that you own or work for that might be able to contribute that you reach out to them.
We will be asking each student in grades 6-12 to help with contributing one item to baskets that we will be auctioning off by theme. We would like items turned into the Band Halls by Thursday, March 10th.

Odem JH 8th Graders – BBQ Basket (BBQ Sauces, Tongs/Spatulas, Recipes, Aprons, Grill Accessories, Canned items, Condiments, etc.)
This event has done quite well for us in the past! Tickets are $15-$25 per ticket depending on the seating type/location, and comes with a choice of Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken, Sides, a drink, and dessert along with the great entertainment! Please help us make this the best year yet for this event!
