Odem Bands Schedule Week of 3/27/2017


We had a busy week last week and we appreciate your help and support in making it happen! The Pre-UIL Concert this past Monday was a big help to us in our preparations for contest, and we appreciate all of those who came out to support our students performances that evening! Friday evening the Screeching Owl Jazz Band had a great performance at the 50th Annual TAMUK Jazz Festival. They were awarded a Superior Rating and 1st Place in Class 3A. As this is very much NOT a small school contest they are to be commended for achieving such a high standard with the judges!
This week we don’t have any major events going on, but we will be busy for the next couple weeks after that. We do need students to bring in any shirt orders you may want by Wednesday. Please note there is an XS available to order, but I mistakenly didn’t add the X before the S. Please place those on the first line of the order form or use the corrected form that is attached. My apologies for that! I have attached a form
Additionally we need students to bring in items for the Silent Auction for the Marches of the Past Fundraiser. Please see my notes on that under that section of this e-mail. We also received a preliminary contest schedule Friday afternoon that times will follow in that section.

Marches of the Past Fundraiser:

Our Marches of the Past Fundraiser is quickly approaching on April the 8th. I hope to have a full schedule of times for the shows for people’s information. By Wednesday we need the silent auction items for the students baskets please. Each graduating class is donating items to create baskets for that silent auction. Our hope is that this will enable us to raise some additional funds. The baskets for the classes are:
Class of 2017 (Seniors): Camping/Lakeside Basket
Class of 2018 (Juniors): Movie Night
Class of 2019 (Sophomores): Game Night Basket
Class of 2020 (Freshmen): Baking/Cooking/Ice Cream Basket
Class of 2021 (Eight Graders): As Seen on TV
Class of 2022 (Seventh Graders): BBQ Basket
If each student can bring one item that fits the theme of their basket I believe we will have a highly successful fundraiser! Please contact me with questions!
High School students should have turned in their money or unsold tickets on Friday. If they have not done so they need to do so by tomorrow! Each high school student was given 2 tickets to sell, please speak with them to verify they have turned in the money or the tickets. We do have a number of tickets still for sale that we would like to see as many presold as possible. Please contact me if you need more!
For your information this is a list of the shows that we have for certain to show that evening:
1960s? (Black and White no sound), 1969, 1970, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1987, 1991, 1990 or 1992 (checking with source later), 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. 
I am going to play the earlier ones for certain without breaks. As the evening goes on we will play later ones by ear or request depending on the full time for the event. 

UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest:

UIL has given us a tentative schedule for contest. Our performances tentatively are:
April 12th:
Odem High School Symphonic Band: 9:20am
Odem Junior High Symphonic Winds: 2:20pm
April 13th:
Odem High School Wind Ensemble: 8:30am
We will publish these with itineraries once they have been set more in stone, but I wanted to get them to you early in case parents wish to make arrangements to get off of work to come see the performances.

May 11th: Spring Evening of Jazz
May 26th: Graduation
May 29th: UIL State Solo and Ensemble
All summer camp dates should be set this week.

Tuesday:      Open until 4:30pm – No Guard Practice
Wednesday: Shirt Orders Due
                   Open until 4:00pm – No Practices
Thursday:   Auction Items Due
                 Open until 5:00pm – Guard Practice and Drum Major Practice
                  Leadership Meeting During Lunch
Friday:      Instrument Pickup until 4:00pm
