Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 4/10/2023
This week is one of our biggest weeks of the year for the Odem Bands with UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation taking place for the OJH Symphonic Winds on Wednesday afternoon, and the OHS Symphonic Band and OHS Wind Ensemble on Thursday morning at Tuloso-Midway HS. This UIL event is free and open to the public. We encourage parents to attend and follow us into the sight-reading room as well!
Performance Times:
OJH Symphonic Winds: 1:15 pm Wednesday
OHS Symphonic Band: 9:00 am Thursday
OHS Wind Ensemble: 12:00 pm Thursday
Students in the OJH Symphonic Winds should bring their concert clothes to school on Wednesday. They will be eating lunch early in the Cafetorium and then depart in time for their warm-up and performance time. The band will perform at 1:15 pm, and Sight-read at 1:40 pm. We will return to school at about 3:00 pm.
The next morning OHS Symphonic Band Members should be at school by 7:15 am! We must depart with this group on time since they are the first band to perform of the day. OHS Wind Ensemble members need to be at school by 7:35 am. All OHS students need to arrive dressed in their concert clothes. Each group will watch both the other OHS ensemble and several other bands as we switch groups. Due to the timing of our groups, both groups will miss the full morning and return to school sometime during 6th or 7th period. We tentatively plan to feed the students at a park before returning to school.
Please note UIL is mandatory for all members of those ensembles, and we ask that you please help us make sure they have their appropriate concert clothes on those days with them!
Next, Windi and Jazzi coming up here soon. We appreciate those who have brought items so far but are still short of what we need. Please help us make sure your student has brought an item for the auction baskets (very few JH students have, and we still need a good chunk of HS students to bring items!) I have listed the basket information in the section below, but we ask every band student in Grades 6-12 to please bring one $10 item to put into the silent auction baskets for their section (HS) or grade for JH. The silent auction component of Windi and Jazzi tends to be the best-performing part of our fundraiser. We will also accept higher-value donations, but if every student brings one $10 item in their theme, we can create a series of great items to auction.
We are also seeking out donations of gift cards from restaurants, other business donations, etc. if you work for a company that might be able to help support the bands there! The Booster officers also could use some help seeking those out, if you might have some time to lend a hand with phone calls or stopping by businesses please contact Mrs. Mandi Edwards.
Windi and Jazzi tickets are on sale now! Our annual Dinner/Concert Fundraiser will be held on May 6th at 5:30 pm in the Odem HS Cafetorium. April Trip payments should be made soon this month. Please make sure arrangements are made to pay directly to Bob Rogers Travel through the website, or via check/money order to Owl Band Boosters, and we’ll forward it to them! We do have a number of registered students who have not yet made payments/deposits. Please take care of that no later than next month so we can ensure an accurate count!
