Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 4/15/2019

We would like to begin by thanking everyone who came out and contributed to our Windi and Jazzi Fundraiser this weekend! Between ticket sales, donations, and the silent auction this was a very successful fundraiser for our students! We will have a full report and breakdown from the Band Boosters at their next meeting. We would like to give a very special shoutout and thank you to Mrs. Mandi Edwards and Mrs. Rita Jasso for putting together the decorations, arranging for catering, and overall making the event come together!

This week is going to be one of the biggest weeks for the Odem Bands we have during the year with UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation this week. Due to the cancellation of school for students tomorrow we are planning on having an Odem HS Wind Ensemble rehearsal tomorrow afternoon from 2:30-4:30pm. I know rides may be an issue for some of the students, so I ask that if that’s they case they see if a friend can help them out with a ride. The students in the Wind Ensemble in particular are playing a challenging program and we really need that additional rehearsal to be prepared for their performance Thursday!

UIL Concert and Sight-Reading

Our UIL performances are upon us for the Odem Bands. The first band to perform will be the Odem JH Symphonic Winds on Wednesday morning at 9am. Those students need to arrive early to school by 7:15am to be ready to leave as soon as we can get a bus to go to Sinton. OJH Students will need to already be dressed in their concert clothes. Ladies: Black Blouse/Black Slacks/Shoes, Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Black Slacks, Black Shoes, Black Socks, Tie (pref. Solid Navy Blue). We should return to school with the OJH Symphonic Winds students during their 4th period class time. They can bring clothes to change into after they return before they go to their other classes.

The next band will be Wednesday afternoon with the Odem HS Symphonic Band at 3:35pm. They will depart from the HS at 2pm and will return around 5pm to the school. Students need to be changed into their concert attire when they come to class in 6th period.

Thursday morning Odem HS Wind Ensemble students need to be at school by 7am to prepare to depart for Sinton. They will need to arrive in their concert clothes that morning. Their performance is at 9:45am, and they should return just before A lunch. Students can bring clothes to change into when we return.

High School Concert attire is Black Blouse/Button Down Shirts/Black Slacks/Black Shoes/Socks. For both HS and JH, Blouses for ladies should not be sleeveless or low cut!

For all performances the event is Free and open to the public. Please consider joining us for your students performance if you can!

The performances are at the Sinton HS auditorium, and you are more than welcome to follow us into the Sight-Reading room after their stage performance if you attend. (Just please be sure not to record any video, audio, or take photographs in the sight-reading room!)

Odem HS Wind Ensemble May 11th Festival at Claudia Taylor Johnson HS (San Antonio)

On May, 11th, 2019 the Odem HS Wind Ensemble is performing/competing at the Texas Music Festivals contest at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio. This festival is going to allow us to have an opportunity to make a high-quality recording for our Honor Band and Outstanding Performance Series Competition submissions. Our performance time for the event is set for 11:30am that morning. Students will need to be at the Band Hall by 7:00am.

Following the performance, we will be going to Six-Flags Fiesta Texas until about 8pm before returning home. Students cost for the tickets/trip is going to be set at $20/student. We need students to please turn in their $20 by this Wednesday, April 17th. Checks or Money Orders only please. made out to OEISD, Memo: Band. Students will also need to take money for Lunch/Dinner that day.

We anticipate returning home that evening around 10pm. Parents are more than welcome to attend the performance, admission is Free for audience members. We do ask that you please be diligent to not have noisy devices or children at that event as we’re using it for an opportunity to receive the recording in a great concert hall. Any extra noises will greatly reduce our chances of success with the recorded competitions.
