Odem Bands Schedule Week of 4-16-2018 – Windi and Jazzi
This week is the big week of our First Annual Windi and Jazzi Fundraiser Dinner/Concert! This is among many things going on this week and the next two, so please read below for information on each event!
Windi and Jazzi Event Info
This great event still has about 90 tickets we need to sell! If you haven’t already purchased your tickets for the event you may do so at http://odemhsband.ludus.com . We will sell what remains the day of, but it would be very helpful to have an accurate ticket count before hand. Dinner of Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken Fried Chicken, Sides, and a Dessert is included along with what will be an outstanding performance from our students!
The evening will begin with seating at 6pm-6:30pm while the Screeching Owl Jazz Band performs an opening set of music. Junior high band students will serve as waiters/waitresses for this event and bring around the food to each guest. Beginning at about 6:30pm the Odem HS Band will perform a great concert of Pops Hits from Disney Movies, Hunger Games, Wizard of Oz, and some other lighter works in what is sure to be a memorable performance with our guest conductor Dr. Gary Ciepluch, Professor Emeritus of Case Western Reserve University. When the full band performance is wrapped up we will serve dessert and the Screeching Owl Jazz Band will perform a final set and we will announce the silent auction winners towards the end of their set.
For the silent auction we are still needing items for the Star Wars Basket out of the high school sections, and need junior high students to bring in their basket items (only received one item from them) of camping items for 8th Graders, and the 7th Grade Band Members theme is BBQ. Please send items early this week if at all possible!
Concert dress for HS Band Students is their all-black Concert Attire. No jeans are allowed, black top/black bottoms. For JH Band Students helping to serve we ask that they wear their concert attire as well. If there are any questions please contact Mr. Rash
Windi and Jazzi Rehearsal Info
For the high school band students we will have additional rehearsals this Friday and Saturday to take advantage of having a distinguished conductor like Dr. Ciepluch clinic the group! Please be sure that your student is at these rehearsals as they are graded and mandatory for all eligible band students!

Color Guard, Leadership, and Drum Major Meetings:
Leadership will only meet Tuesday after school this week. Guard will practice on Tuesday and Wednesday from 5pm-6pm. Drum Majors will practice from 4:50pm-5:30pm on Tuesday. Tryouts for Drum Majors and Color Guard are set for May 4th after school at the HS.
8th Annual South Coast Jazz Festival
In one week, on Friday, April 27th, we will have our annual South Coast Jazz Festival! Eight years ago we began a joint event with the Goliad HS Jazz Band that has developed into a traveling jazz festival for small schools. This years will be our largest yet! We will need some help with directing students to their rooms and such, if you believe you might be able to volunteer to help us with this event please contact Mr. Rash!

Odem JH Bands Trip to Schlitterbahn:
On May 21st, eligible 7th/8th Grade students from the Odem JH Band will take their annual trip to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels. The cost per student will be $60, which will cover transportation, ticket to the park, and dinner after we leave. To be eligible to attend this trip students must have performed at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, and not be attending the mandatory flex days. Please contact Mr. Williams with any questions you have in regards to this trip. Trip payments should be made via check or money order to OEISD. The first half of the trip payment must be paid by this Friday, April 20th!

April 27th: 8th Annual South Coast Jazz Festival – Hosted in Odem this year
April 28th: All-Region Jazz Band Clinic/Concert – Goliad
April 30th: Odem Bands Spring Concert at 6:30pm (Odem JH Symphonic Winds, Odem HS Symphonic Band, Odem HS Wind Ensemble, Full Band, and combined bands)
May 3rd: OJH Beginning Band and OJH Concert Band Spring Concert 6:30pm
May 14th: Screeching Owl Jazz Band Spring Evening of Jazz
May 15th: Final Orlando Trip Meeting – Mandatory for students to be there with one parent!
May 25th: Graduation (Mandatory for HS 9th-11th Graders, Strongly Encouraged for Symphonic Winds Members)
May 27th-28th: UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest
June 3rd-8th: Trip to Florida (Check-in on the 2nd)
