Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 4/17/2023
First off, this week is that we extend our congratulations to the students in the Odem JH Symphonic Winds, Odem HS Symphonic Band, and Odem HS Wind Ensemble for all earning Sweepstakes Awards this year at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation! The students all performed amazingly well, and we look forward to completing the very successful spring with them!
For the rest of the year we have something nearly every week, so please keep tuned to the calendar and these messages! This week we will travel to San Antonio with the OJH Symphonic Winds and OHS Wind Ensemble to compete at the Bluebonnet Classic competition at the Tobin Performing Arts Center. This trip serves as another chance for students to receive feedback from quality adjudicators, compete for placement awards, and also record their selections for entry in state-level recorded competitions. It is mandatory and graded for all eligible students in those ensembles.
Please see the itinerary in the section below for more information about this trip. Parents are more than welcome, and encouraged, to come to see their performances! OJH Symphonic Winds performs at 3:30 pm, and OHS Wind Ensemble Performs at 4 pm. There is no admission for entry.
We also have our April Band Booster Meeting this week, and are very much in need of at least 2 more officers for the boosters for the coming year! This organization is imperative in your students chances for success, and we need new members to help take over the organization. Please consider coming and volunteering with the group! We meet at 7pm in the OHS Cafetorium on Tuesday night.
Windi and Jazzi is just a couple weeks away now! We appreciate those who have brought items so far but are still short of what we need. Please help us make sure your student has brought an item for the auction baskets (very few JH students have, and we still need a good chunk of HS students to bring items!) I have listed the basket information in the section below, but we ask every band student in Grades 6-12 to please bring one $10 item to put into the silent auction baskets for their section (HS) or grade for JH. The silent auction component of Windi and Jazzi tends to be the best-performing part of our fundraiser. We will also accept higher-value donations, but if every student brings one $10 item in their theme, we can create a series of great items to auction.
We are also seeking out donations of gift cards from restaurants, other business donations, etc. if you work for a company that might be able to help support the bands there! The Booster officers also could use some help seeking those out, if you might have some time to lend a hand with phone calls or stopping by businesses please contact Mrs. Mandi Edwards.
Windi and Jazzi tickets are on sale now! Our annual Dinner/Concert Fundraiser will be held on May 6th at 5:30 pm in the Odem HS Cafetorium. This year’s theme is ‘Comedy Tonight,’ and will feature tributes to the slapstick eras of musical comedy! You may pre-purchase tickets here: http://odemhsband.ludus.com

Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds Trip
Students will need to be at their Band Halls at 9 am on Saturday morning for departure with their concert clothes, instrument, etc. We will also need students to bring money for lunch at Buccee’s on the way up to the competition. Dinner will be covered within a deal we have with Main Event that covers 2 Pieces of Pizza/Medium Drink, a $20 FUNcard, Bowling, Laser Tag, Gravity Ropes, Billiards, and Shuffleboard. Students will need to bring money for any extra games they wish to play, as well as snacks or desserts. We anticipate returning about 11 pm on Saturday night from San Antonio. This is a mandatory graded performance for all Eligible students in these ensembles!

We do have a number of registered students who have not yet made payments/deposits. Please take care of that no later than next month so we can ensure an accurate count!
