Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 4/19/2021
This week I would like to begin by congratulation the Odem JH Symphonic Winds, Odem HS Symphonic Band, and Odem HS Wind Ensemble students for each group earning a Sweepstakes Awards this past Wednesday at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation! For the Odem HS Wind Ensemble this was their 8th Consecutive Sweepstakes Award! We are very proud of the students focus and hard work this year in making things work in-spite of the unbelievable year we have all been through!
We would also like to say thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Windi and Jazzi fundraiser this past weekend! From our initial look at things we believe we cleared about $1700 from the event! Thank you so much for everyone who donated items, bought tickets, and participated in the auction! We look forward to having a bigger and better Windi and Jazzi 2022 next spring!
The next few weeks will not have events for us, but we will be working on prepping for our 2021 Color Guard auditions, as well as beginning our Leadership Training for Section Leaders and Drum Majors for next season. Our 2021 Summer Band Schedule is available here at this link, and we ask that parents help us be successful next year by planning any summer vacations around our dates. This coming year is going to be our next chance to attempt to again advance to the UIL State Marching Band Contest. It’s a long road to reach that point, and we need every student present for our summer rehearsals in order to adequately prepare our show.
We are getting very excited for the new year, with great things in store for the season including the new stadium and football field that Odem will break ground shortly on! It will be a fantastic addition to the district, and will be a fantastic upgrade for both the Football Team and The Spirit of OHS – letting us be even better prepared for our competitions on a common playing surface!
We look forward to premiering the first two movements or so of the show to you all at our Spring Concert on May 17th! Please see the section below for all of our Spring Concert Information!
Spring Band Concerts
At this time we are planning to have in-person Spring Concerts to be held in the Odem HS Cafetorium. There may be a limit on tickets per student to fit everyone safely in the space. We will work to prepare that information for you in the coming weeks. The Odem JH Symphonic Winds and the Odem HS Bands will share a concert on Monday, May 17th. The Odem JH Concert Band and Beginning Band will share a concert on Tuesday, May 18th.
Concerts are mandatory graded performances, and students will need to wear their concert attire.
OHS Leadership Training
This week we will begin working with our Student Leadership team to prepare for the coming year. Our meetings will be from 3:40pm-4:30pm in the HS Band Hall for any 9th-11th Grade students are interested in joining the team! We look forward to resuming more normal operations next fall, and part of that will involve students helping out much more than we were able to have them do this year!
Spring Band Fees
These fees of $25/student are past due at this point. We very much appreciate those of you who have already turned them in. If your student has not yet paid the fee we ask that you please get it turned in this week. Payment should be made out by check or money order to OEISD, Memo: Band
If there’s an issue with paying please contact us and we’ll find a way to work something out. Thank you for your assistance in getting these fees turned in!
