Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 4/2/2018

Welcome to April! This is set to be one of our busiest month’s this year, so please read carefully for items that pertain to your student. There is information for both HS and JH students this week that is very important!

Florida Payments Due Tuesday:

All students accounts for the trip to Florida must be paid by Tuesday evening at the Booster Meeting! We have to make our final payment to the tour company Wednesday and must have the amount in the account to make that payment. Make checks or money orders out to Owl Band Boosters. Additionally you can pay using a Credit Card online, just please note that there is a donation fee associated with that to cover the fees we have to pay.


Odem JH Concert Band UIL Contest:

The OJH Concert Band performs at UIL Concert Contest on Wednesday, at San Diego HS. We have an early performance time of 8:40am for this performance. Due to the travel time, and the normal time for check-in for the contest we will need all students to be at the Odem JH Band Hall by 6am on that day. Please arrange for your students transportation to this early morning departure as we need every single eligible student to attend!

Students must wear the following:

Ladies: Black Blouse, Black Slacks, Black Shoes

Gentlemen: White Button Down Shirt, Solid Navy Blue Tie, Black Slacks, Black Dress Shoes, and Black Socks

Absolutely no jeans or tennis shoes are to be worn. Black jeans are not black slacks!

The contest is free and open to the public to attend if you would like to come watch their performance! You are also more than welcome to follow us to the sight-reading room. Please note in the sight-reading room there can be absolutely no pictures, video, or audio recordings made!

Students will return to school before lunch and resume their normal classes. Students will be allowed to change into their regular school clothes before returning to class.


Color Guard, Leadership, and Drum Major Meetings:

Leadership will meet from 3:50pm-4:50pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. Guard will practice on those two days from 5pm-6pm. Drum Majors will practice from 4:50pm-5:30pm on those two days. Tryouts for Drum Majors and Color Guard are set for May 4th after school at the HS.


Band Booster Meeting Tuesday:

We will have our monthly Band Booster Meeting on Tuesday at 7pm in the Band Hall. We need at least one officer position for next year still filled. If you are interested please come to the meeting so you may be nominated. Officers are voted on for next year at this weeks meeting. We will also accept payments for the trip on this evening. Please note that this is also our final meeting before Windi and Jazzi, so if you think you can help with organizing this event please attend so we can get our final preparations made.


Windi and Jazzi Tickets and Auction Items Due:

On Friday we need all ticket sheets and auction items turned in for Windi and Jazzi. Once again you can place ticket orders online at http://odemhsband.ludus.com. There you can pick your seats out and pay easily. I’ve been quite impressed with how easy the system has worked for those who have used it. Please consider it if you have not already purchased your tickets! Saturday we have to let our caterer know our final counts for meals. Please help us sell this event out!

Additionally silent auction items are needed by Friday as well. Students should be bringing the following from each section:

Flutes – Beach/Pool Themed, Oboe – Camping, Clarinets – Cooking Stuff, Saxophones – Star Wars, Trumpets/Horn – ‘Treat Yo Self’ (Relaxing stuff, blankets, and snacks), Trombones/Euphonium – Barking Goods (Initially a typo, but barking goods is what they are doing), Tubas – Comedy Movies, Percussion – Movies.

The 8th Grade Band Members theme is camping, and the 7th Grade Band Members theme is BBQ.

Odem JH Bands Trip to Schlitterbahn:

On May 21st, eligible 7th/8th Grade students from the Odem JH Band will take their annual trip to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels. The cost per student will be $60, which will cover transportation, ticket to the park, and dinner after we leave. To be eligible to attend this trip students must have performed at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, and not be attending the mandatory flex days. Please contact Mr. Williams with any questions you have in regards to this trip. Trip payments should be made via check or money order to OEISD.


End of Year Events:

April is going to be a very busy month for us. I’m going to list all of the dates below – please triple check that you have marked these dates on your calendar:

April 3rd: Band Booster Meeting – ALL FLORIDA TRIP PAYMENTS DUE!

April 4th: Odem JH Concert Band – UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest in San Diego (8:40 AM performance)

April 20th: Odem HS Bands rehearsal with Dr. Ciepluch

April 21st: Windi and Jazzi (6pm) Fundraiser (Note Students will have rehearsals that day leading to the event)

April 25th: Odem JH Symphonic Winds and Odem HS Joint Rehearsal After School until 5:30pm (Necessary for Spring Concert the following Monday)

April 26th: Robstown Concert Band Festival – Odem JH Symphonic Winds 12:30pm and Odem HS Wind Ensemble 1:30pm

April 27th: 8th Annual South Coast Jazz Festival – Hosted in Odem this year

April 28th: All-Region Jazz Band Clinic/Concert – Goliad

April 30th: Odem Bands Spring Concert at 6:30pm (Odem JH Symphonic Winds, Odem HS Symphonic Band, Odem HS Wind Ensemble, Full Band, and combined bands)

May 3rd: OJH Beginning Band and OJH Concert Band Spring Concert 6:30pm

May 7th: Mandatory Final Trip Meeting

May 14th: Screeching Owl Jazz Band Spring Evening of Jazz
