Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 4/24/2023
This is a week we are celebrating great news across our programs here in Odem! First, on Wednesday we were notified that we were named a National Best Communities for Music Education Award Recipient for the 9th Consecutive year! This a great national recognition of our program from elementary music through high school band here in OEISD! We appreciate the support of the community and OEISD Administration and Board of Trustees in making it possible to achieve such an honor!
Yesterday we traveled to San Antonio with the Odem JH Symphonic Winds and the Odem HS Wind Ensemble to perform at the Tobin Center. Both groups had outstanding performances and were awarded Superior Ratings by all of the judges, and awarded ‘Best in Class’ for their performances as well! We appreciated seeing many of our parents and family members there for the performance!
As we move into our final weeks of the school year we will see events really pick up for a few weeks here. First, on Friday, we will host the 11th Annual South Coast Jazz Festival at the Odem HS Cafetorium. This is a traveling jazz festival that we cofounded, and we look forward to bringing it home to Odem! The event kicks off with the first group performing at 5 pm, Odem performing at about 8:20 pm, and a directors band performing after that about 8:35 pm. Admission is free, and we’d love to have plenty of community out to support the event! 9 Schools including Odem are set to perform, and it should be a great evening of jazz!
The following week we have our Drum Major/Guard auditions on Friday the 5th, and Windi and Jazzi the next day on the 6th. Spring concerts for JH Symphonic Winds and HS Bands on Monday, May 15th, and JH Beginning Band/Concert Band on May 16th. Please help us make sure students are at all of their performances!
Just a reminder Windi and Jazzi tickets are on sale now! Our annual Dinner/Concert Fundraiser will be held on May 6th at 5:30 pm in the Odem HS Cafetorium. This year’s theme is ‘Comedy Tonight,’ and will feature tributes to the slapstick eras of musical comedy! You may pre-purchase tickets here: http://odemhsband.ludus.com

April Trip payments should be made at this time for the month. Please make sure arrangements are made to pay directly to Bob Rogers Travel through the website, or via check/money order to Owl Band Boosters, and we’ll forward it to them! We do have a number of registered students who have not yet made payments/deposits. Please take care of that no later than next month so we can ensure an accurate count!
