Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 5/13/2024
We begin this week by congratulating our Odem JH Symphonic Winds and Odem HS Wind Ensemble students for outstanding performances on Friday at the American Classics Buccaneer Festival at Del Mar College. Both bands earned Superior Ratings from the three judges and the award of ‘Outstanding Performer’ for their class!
This is our final full week of school for the year! We’ll be having Spring Concerts for all bands this week, HS drumline auditions, and a mandatory trip meeting for students traveling to Cleveland. All-in-all this is going to be a very busy week!
We’ll start tomorrow (Monday) evening with our first concert; Odem JH Symphonic Winds and the HS Bands. The concert will begin at 6:30 pm. JH Symphonic Winds Students should be on stage by 5:45 pm to warm-up, HS Wind Ensemble in the Band Hall to warm-up at 6pm, and HS Symphonic Band Members will be in the audience to begin the concert, no later than 6:20 pm. The concert will be in order of Odem JH Symphonic Winds, Odem HS Wind Ensemble, Odem HS Full Band, and finish with all of the students performing together with the Odem Wind Symphony.
Tuesday evening, we will have our final regular concert of the year, with the Odem JH Beginning Band and Odem JH Concert Band. Beginning Band Students need to be on-stage by 5:45 pm for their warm-up, and Concert Band students need to be in the Band Hall at 6 pm. We’ve invited some HS students to join the last group, they should also be in the Band Hall for that 6 pm warm-up. The concert again begins at 6:30 pm.
Please remember all concerts are mandatory, graded performances! Students should wear their concert attire for these concerts. If that’s an issue please contact Mr. Williams or myself in advance.
Wednesday after school we will host drumline tryouts for anyone interested in being on the 2024 Odem HS Drumline. We have outside judges coming this year to judge and will begin as close to 4 pm as possible. I would imagine we will be finished no later than 5 pm.
Finally, there is a mandatory parent and student meeting on Thursday at 7pm for all students traveling to Cleveland. We will be going over rules, forms, etc. that night and need the student and one parent/guardian present for each. I understand there is a senior trip that day, we will need to schedule a one-on-one makeup meeting with those students/parents the next week. I plan to take any flute players who are interested up to participate! They need to return their forms tomorrow please so I may register them!
