Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 5/22/2023
Welcome to the final week of the 2022-2023 school year!!!! It really is always amazing the journey the students take from the beginning to the end of the year! We appreciate everyone who came out to support the students this past week at their Spring Concerts to wrap up the year!
JH Band Students other than Symphonic Winds need to take their personal instruments home after school on Monday. Students may check out school instruments over the summer, but we do need the Summer Instrument Checkout form completed and returned in order to do so. We have those available in the Band Halls!
Everyone always asks us as band directors if things slow down after certain events, and we always have to shake our heads and laugh, because there truly is always something else! This week we have a couple of events still. The first is drumline auditions for The Spirit of OHS after school on Wednesday. Students should make sure they’re present promptly after school so we can get started on those.
Of course, our biggest event is saying goodbye to our seniors on Friday evening at Graduation! We need all of our 9th-11th Grade Band Members and Symphonic Winds members to meet at the HS Band Hall at 5 pm for a quick rehearsal before we move equipment to the stadium. We’ll have pizza for them as we wait for the ceremony to draw nearer. At approximately 7:25 pm we’ll begin playing pre-ceremony music up until Graduation begins at 8 pm. The ceremony typically concludes around 8:15 pm-8:30 pm by the time we complete the cleanup.
We ask that all of our students attend this event so we can give our seniors the sendoff they deserve, just as we will do for them when the time comes!
Finally, we have a day off on Saturday, then we’ll depart with our 16 students who qualified for the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest on Sunday. Students need to be at the Band Hall at 12:30 pm. We’ll have a bag check, load, and then travel up to the Pflugerville area. We’ll eat dinner and then go do something as a group before heading in for the night to the hotel.
Monday students will compete at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville. These are the student’s times:

Students will be given a per diem for food that I’ll discuss with them before we leave. They’ll want money for T-Shirts/Snacks on the way up and down. When we return, we will purchase state patches for them and they’re available for group orders.
Cleveland 2024
We’ll be contacting students who are signed up for the trip with more specifics, but there will be a slight set of changes to the dates of the trips. We have a hold on Severance Hall for June 5th, so we’ll need to move the travel dates up a day to match up with that rental. Please look for that information to come out in the next two weeks after we set things up with our tour company to match.
May Trip payments should have been made. Please make sure arrangements are made to pay directly to Bob Rogers Travel through the website, or via check/money order to Owl Band Boosters, and we’ll forward it to them! We do have a number of registered students who have not yet made payments/deposits. Please take care of that no later than next month so we can ensure an accurate count!
Also please note the airfare windows begin to open for one airline in the next couple of weeks and we will need to have that set of payments available for the company to secure our air travel.
