Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 5/27/2024
First of all we’d like to congratulate our 2024 graduates who graduated Friday night! We wish them the best as they move onto the next chapter in their lives!
I’m posting this week’s message a night early due to UIL State Solo and Ensemble tomorrow/Monday. For those students we need them to be at the high school by 10am so that we make it up in time to rehearse with an accompanist at UT, before we head to the hotel and Main Event Sunday night. Students will have a pass that allows for bowling, minigolf, laser tag, and a few more things, as well as 2 pieces of pizza with a drink and a $10 playing card for games. They’ll need any additional spending money above that they want. Beyond that they’ll have a small per diem for meals beyond that. I would recommend students bring a little more spending money beyond that if possible.
The schedule of events is listed below for Monday. The event takes place at Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, and is free/open to the public if you wish to watch your student perform! We should finish just before noon with all of our events and will stop for lunch nearby before heading home. Hopefully we’ll be back in Odem about 5pm.
Wednesday we will begin our very focused final preparations for our Cleveland Trip/Performance at Severance Hall. Wednesday through Friday students must be at the school before 9am (preferably by 8:45am so we’re not waiting for students and wasting clinicians time), and will have a lunch break from 12-1pm, then we’ll rehearse from 1pm-4:30pm. In the morning we have professionals coming in that specialize on their instruments to work with them in small sections. The afternoon will be clinicians with two special guest conductors who will help us refine our performance leading into the next week. ALL STUDENT TRIP PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND THESE REHEARSALS!!!!!!!!
The next Monday, on the 3rd, we will have our Send-Off Performance at 6pm. Students will need to be at the HS by 4:30 pm so we can ensure everyone has their concert clothes set correctly. We’ll take a picture on stage before the concert, have a brief reception afterward, then send students to get luggage and things to begin check-in at the OJH Band Hall for the trip.

I plan to take any flute players who are interested up to participate!
UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest Performance Times
UIL State Solo and Ensemble is open to the public. We encourage parents to come support their students and see their performances! If you wish to pick up your student please make sure to fill out one of the alternative transportation forms. They are available in the Band Hall and also on www.odembands.org .
