Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 5/3/2021
I hope this message finds you well as we close in on the end of the school year! This week is a light week for the band program with only HS Leadership/Drum Major Training, and Guard Practices happening after school this week. Just reminder that the
Odem HS Bands and the Odem JH Symphonic Winds have their spring concert on May 17th. Even though the district has announced that will now be a teacher workday for the district we are still going to have our concert that evening. May is a very tightly scheduled month with events across the district and we don’t have a good way to move that concert date. Please note that even with school not being in session that day, that is a mandatory graded concert for all students involved in those groups!
I have attached our Summer Band Schedule to this posting, and ask that parents help us be successful next year by planning any summer vacations around our dates. This coming year is going to be our next chance to attempt to again advance to the UIL State Marching Band Contest. It’s a long road to reach that point, and we need every student present for our summer rehearsals in order to adequately prepare our show.
Please note I am waiting to send our schedules for next year out until we have a Region Directors Meeting on May 15th. Without that though please plan for HS students to be involved in a contest/clinic every Saturday of October except the final one which would be our off week leading to the next week would be UIL State. We ask that students pick dates other than October for ACT/SAT testing to avoid conflicts with the UIL Area Marching Contest. (There are test dates in June, July, September, and December that would work best)

Spring Band Concerts
At this time we are planning to have in-person Spring Concerts to be held in the Odem HS Cafetorium. There will be a limit on tickets per student to fit everyone safely in the space. We will give a final number next week on those, and provide students with the tickets to bring home. The Odem JH Symphonic Winds and the Odem HS Band will share a concert on Monday, May 17th. (Note that even with the student holiday the concert is still a mandatory graded event for all students!)
The Odem JH Concert Band and Beginning Band will share a concert on Tuesday, May 18th.
All concerts are mandatory graded performances, and students will need to wear their concert attire.
OHS Leadership Training
We will continue with Leadership training this week. All Leadership Tuesday and Thursday 3:40pm-4:30pm. Drum Majors on Monday and Wednesday as well from 3:30pm-4:30pm.
Marching Band Physicals
Odem will be hosting a chance for students to receive their physicals on May 5th after school. Every student in the marching band will need a new on this year, unless they had one this school year. (Most rolled over to this year as a one-time extension by UIL)
Students may get them done at this opportunity, or you may take them into their normal primary care doctor. We will provide them the forms this week in class. Every student must have a physical prior to the beginning of summer band (guard camp)!

It would be very helpful if we could have these forms completed and turned into us or the athletic department by the final day of this school year.
Spring Band Fees
These fees of $25/student are past due at this point. We very much appreciate those of you who have already turned them in. If your student has not yet paid the fee we ask that you please get it turned in this week. Payment should be made out by check or money order to OEISD, Memo: Band
If there’s an issue with paying please contact us and we’ll find a way to work something out. Thank you for your assistance in getting these fees turned in!
