Odem Bands Schedule Week of 7/15/2018

This week we start preparations in full for our 2018 Marching Band Season Wednesday, when we will have our Percussion (Battery and Front Ensemble) and Color Guard camps. Before I get to that though I would like to welcome our newest staff member to The Spirit of OHS, Ms. Alexa Wicks! She will be joining us as a color guard instructor and be teaching at the Junior High. She will be around for guard camp this week so she can get her bearings and meet all of our members!

Guard Camp

Color Guard Camp will be from 9am-5pm on Wednesday and Thursday – and should follow a similar schedule on Friday. Friday my hope is that we are able to have the girls present one or more of the movements of the show for parents to see at the end of that day. Due to a last minute change in the personnel being sent by MA Dance I’m going to leave that time as TBA until I hear from them. All guard members must be present for the entire camp, as it’s one of the most important training sessions we have with them! Color Guard will meet at the OJH Band Hall due to the larger space available inside the main hall there. There will be a lunch break each day from 12:30pm-1:30pm. Wednesday all students should be at the OJH Band Hall no later than 8:45am so we may begin on time with our instructor! Students need to have this form completed by their parents/guardians: http://www.odembands.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/MedicalReleaseForm.pdf Members should dress appropriately for an intense physical rehearsal those days. Water Bottles should be brought with students along with a notebook and writing utensil for any notes they might need to make.

Percussion Camp

Percussion camp for Drumline and Front Ensemble will be held at the OHS Band Hall Wednesday-Friday from 9am-4pm, with a lunch break of 11:30am-12:30pm. Students should bring music, any sticks/mallets needed, pencils, water bottle, and suitable close toed shoes. Again this is a camp that students must attend as we will have the opportunity to work with them more one-on-one with Mr. Valperts coming in to clinic again. Please help us make sure students are at least fifteen minutes early on Wednesday so we may be setup and not waste our clinicians time.

Other Notes

The next week we begin Summer Band on the 23rdof July! Due to an odd calendar year we are doing Monday-Wednesday that week with full band, and then we’ll resume our normal schedule of full week practices then until school begins. Students should plan to have tennis shoes, large water jugs or camelbaks, instruments, music, supplies, pencils, etc. for those rehearsals. Bug spray is also highly recommended with the recent moisture we’ve had. Additionally, we will have our March-A-Thon on the 31stof this month. Forms will be available by Wednesday via e-mail and may be picked up that day from the band hall as well.

Finally we will be re-striping and dotting the parking lot on Thursday and Friday morning. We need as many of our student leaders who are not in percussion/guard to help out those mornings as we can. We’ll begin early due to heat by 7:30am.
