Odem Bands – Schedule Week of 7/17/2023

This past week our Leadership Team members got to experience a great clinic by Marching Health and our Drum Line/Front Ensemble members got off to a great start as well! Starting tomorrow through Wednesday we’ll have our Guard Camp and two days of Leadership Prep/Training. The schedule for each of those will be below.

Everyone else in HS Band will begin the following week on Monday, 7/24. I’m including the schedule of rehearsals for that week below in a subsection. Essentially all students have a morning/early afternoon sectional, afternoon indoor music rehearsal, and evening outdoor marching practice. It is imperative we have students at each of those to facilitate their success this season! Students who do not have good attendance at summer rehearsals may be made an alternate for the season. Missing summer band completely may result in removal from band at the director’s discretion.

On Friday, 7/28 beginning at 6:00 pm we will have our annual March-A-Thon. Students may solicit pledges per mile or step, flat donations, corporate sponsorships, etc. We will stop at any house along the route and play for $50. Additionally, if someone does not live along the route we have often stopped at the park or in front of the school to perform for donors as well! This will be our first big fundraiser of what will be a busy year for us, you may find the donation forms here if you want to get a jump start. If a business needs a formal donation letter please let us know! http://www.odembands.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/2023-March-A-Thon-Form.pdf

Finally, we do need pre-participation forms (1st page from link below) completed from all students prior to that first Monday outdoors, and anyone who needs an updated physical need that as well. Generally, we should be back on track with that cycle that it should be incoming Freshmen and incoming Juniors who need the physicals. Physicals are good for 2 calendar years though, so if one is done in between those points they are considered valid. If this has been turned into the athletic department already we can see that in RankOne. We do work together to track this as we share students. A physical done for athletics counts for band, you don’t have to do a separate one. You may find the official UIL forms here: https://www.uiltexas.org/files/athletics/forms/PrePhysFormRvsd1_10_20.pdf  Please make sure we do have that pre-participation form completed for ALL students and turned into us or the athletic department.

It’s imperative for our success that students are always present to ‘Be There, Work Hard!’  Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you may have!
