Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 8/15/2022
Wow, it’s hard to believe that we’re already back to the first week of school! Classes start for students on Wednesday, and we especially look forward to welcoming our new and old students back to Odem JH this week! For our incoming 6th Graders we will have our instrument drive night with Hillje Music on Wednesday, August 24th from 4:30pm-7pm. They will come and do orders for their rental program that evening in the JH Band Hall. South Texas Music Mart in Corpus can also take care of rentals for students if you wish to go into town. We provided a list of instrument brands to students that we recommend back in the spring, and will pass that out again this coming week.
Also, at that evening if you purchased an instrument through Hillje they have a great Step-Up instrument program where you trade back the student instrument and they move the student up to an intermediate or professional model. They apply previous payments towards the new instrument. This can be a great opportunity for many of our 7th-12th graders potentially! They will also have supply orders they take that night and deliver to the school the following week.
7th and 8th Grade returning band students will need their instruments on Thursday to begin preparing for their upcoming events. They will begin performing at pep rallies in just a couple of weeks. Please help us ensure that they have their instruments that day!
Finally, looking onward at the HS Band, this week we will have our Annual ‘Meet the Band’ performance at Owl Stadium at 8pm on Wednesday. We encourage every student’s family to come and watch the results of their incredible hard work from the past couple of weeks! They have learned the first half of the show at this point, and we’re hoping to have 3 of the 4 parts to perform for you all that night. That is free and open to all members of the public as well!
Tuesday night, we will also have our monthly Owl Band Booster Meeting at 7pm in the HS Cafetorium. Please come join us and help continue to this amazing organization that has done so much for our students over the years!
Our fall fees for marching band should have been paid at this time. For all Sophomores-Seniors who have marching shoes that fit the fee is $50. This includes the show shirt, shorts, water jug, and helps pay for other items like flip folders, lyres, etc. Freshmen, or any other member who needs shoes will need to pay an additional $40, for a total of $90 to cover marching shoes as well. This has had to increase from last year due to increased prices on items.
Guard members should have paid a total of $400 by the date they tried out. The final fee for them is $100 as long as they were paid in full. (Full 2023 fee is $500 between the two payments) They do not pay the regular band fall fee.
Payments need to be made in CHECK or MONEY ORDER only please to OEISD Memo: Band. We do not accept cash for these items.
Parent/Community 2022 Show Shirts
If you would like to order extra shirts for parents/family/friends of our 2022 ‘The Road Not Taken’ show. Please complete the form available here (http://www.odembands.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2022-Marching-Band-Tshirt-Order-Form.pdf) and send a check/money order made out to ‘Owl Band Boosters.’ Please note this needs to be separate from band fees as these are going to be ordered through the boosters so that we can get the students shirts and shorts ordered sooner. We will accept orders through this Wednesday (17th) at the Meet the Band Performance. Shirts are moisture management material.

Need Volunteers to Help at Scrimmage Concession Stand
FYI for HS Students/Parents: Beginning the following week on August 22nd we will begin our normal weekly rehearsal schedule. That is Mondays and Thursdays 6:30pm-8:30pm, and Wednesdays 4pm-6pm initially. Once the Odem CCD program starts up we will go Wednesdays 4pm-5:30pm. It’s imperative that students attend every rehearsal unless they are at an athletic practice, game, or other school event!
