Odem Bands Schedule: Week of 8-20-2018
This week we see the new school year begin! Please note we have a few details for both OHS and OJH parents/students to be aware of. Wednesday will be the first day of school and that evening at 8pm we will be hosting our Annual Meet the Band performance at Owl Stadium. (Please note we pushed the time back to 8pm from the original published time) We hope that parents and other community members will come out to support this years Spirit of OHS Marching Band as we premiere our 2018 Marching Show, ‘War Dance.’
For high school students we will be adjusting practice schedules this week around Meet the Teacher night, and also due to school starting. Please pay attention as each day will be different this week. Beginning the following week of the 27th the high school rehearsals will move to their normal Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday that we do for the fall. For this week we will continue with Monday through Thursday with the different times.
Odem JH Band Student Information:
Odem JH Symphonic Winds and Concert Band students will not need their instruments on the first day of school. They will however need them on Thursday. Please make sure that they have all of the reeds, valve oil, and other supplies they need prior to then. Odem JH Beginning Band students will not need their instruments initially. The next week on August 29th we will have Hillje Music Center present to run our annual beginning band instrument drive. They are also able to do a deal for step-up instruments for older students. If the instrument was purchased through them they have a deal that applies your previous payments to the step-up instrument. This is great for a student who has outgrown their beginning instrument and is ready for the extra features/quality of a better instrument! Hillje will be at the OJH Band Hall from 5pm-7:30pm that Wednesday the 29th.
Beginning Band students will not need their instruments until Thursday, September 6th. As I said above Hillje Music will be at the Band Hall for an evening. South Texas Music Mart is the other local option that has traditionally been reliable for our parents. Please note that they have moved this year from the location that they have been for decades. Their new location is off of Alameda and Everhart in the Town and Country Plaza. If you follow Everhart down to Alameda and turn right it’s the shopping center immediately on your left. The best landmarks to look for is that it is behind the Cancun Restaurant and across the street from HEB. If you need more directions please let us know and we’ll do our best to help you!
Meet the Band:
Our annual Meet the Band evening will take place on Wednesday at Owl Stadium. We ask that you come in through the main entrance where the ticket booth is located for the performance. Background Check forms will be available at the event as well for volunteers to fill out and turn in to us. (All parents volunteering to ride on buses must have one completed each year) Some Odem Band shirts we are looking to clear out will also be for sale at this event. The event begins at 8pm, we hope that you will join us for their performance!
HS Fall Band/Guard Fees:
OHS Fall Band and Guard Fees should have been paid last week. If your student has not yet paid their fees we ask that they turn them in no later than tomorrow so we can get supplies, shoes, and shirts ordered for the season. For freshmen or students who need shoes their fee is $75. For upperclassmen who have shoes still the fee is $35.
Guard Fees are $200 for students who are new or need new warm-ups. Our returning members who have warm-ups fee is $100. There is an optional backpack for $40 for students. All fees for guard should be paid by tomorrow.
