Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 8/30/2018 – March-A-Thon
Before I begin this week’s information I would like to congratulate the members of the 2018 Odem HS Wind Ensemble for placing 5th at State in the ATSSB Outstanding Performance Series Competition! Their recording of English Folk Song Suite, mvmt. 1, competed against the best bands in the State in Class 3A and did exceptionally well! Congratulations also go out to Mr. Williams and the OJH Symphonic Winds members who were also State Finalists in their classification!
This week we continue summer band rehearsals and will also host our 4th Annual Odem HS March-A-Thon on Tuesday evening. For the March-A-Thon we are going to begin earlier than normal so that we can have our annual pool party at the Odem Pool following it. The March-A-Thon will step off at 4pm, and we should conclude around 6:15pm. We need volunteers to help with water breaks, blocking traffic, and collecting funds as we pass. If you’re available please meet us at the Band Hall at about 3:30pm as we get organized for the event. Students need to be at the Band Hall by 3pm that afternoon and should arrive having drank plenty of water before hand. We will be taking frequent water breaks during the event. Please help us to reach our goal of $50/student for this fundraiser!
On Wednesday Volleyball begins, and we will adjust our summer schedule for the end of the week and the following week to work with that schedule. Especially for freshman parents I would like you to know that the coaches, cheerleading sponsors, and the band staff all work together very well for conflicts of time. Our philosophy across the school district is that we are a small school, and for any of our programs to be successful we have to share students. If your student is ever in that situation with a conflicting time please have them speak with us and we’ll figure out the best way to work it out for the benefit of that student, and all of our students and organizations. Often times we work out something where they might miss part of each practice to make things work. We do ask that students go straight to our practices from their others and avoid going home if at all possible between practices.

9:00am-12:00pm: Full Band Rehearsal on Stage, Colorguard in OHS Band Hall
2:30pm: Leadership Brief Meeting
3:00pm: All Band Students at Band Hall to organize for March-A-Thon
4:00pm: March-A-Thon Step-Off
