Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 8/6/2018

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the Annual Spirit of OHS March-a-Thon last week! Through the efforts of our students and boosters we raised nearly $2,000! Thanks especially to Mrs. Jasso, Mrs. Lovaas, Mr. Lovaas, and other parents who followed us and helped out when we needed it! Thank you to Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Hammack who were also involved in some of the prep leading into the event. We are still seeking sponsors for half-time and banners to be posted in the concession stand. Please contact Mrs. Edwards or Mrs. Jasso if your business, or one you work in, might be interested!

This week for the students we will continue on the same schedule as we used last week. Leadership will meet at 2:15pm this week and we’ll rehearse inside from 3pm-5:30pm inside, and outside 6:30pm-9:00pm. Our goal is to finish setting our first song on the field no later than Tuesday, and have the second song on the field by Thursday. It is imperative that every student attend every rehearsal. Missing rehearsals when we are setting drill can set a student weeks behind in catching up with the rest of the band.

We will also begin fitting students for uniforms this week so we can send them off to be cleaned before the season begins. We prefer to do that during the inside rehearsal time. If you might be available to help out during the daytime like that please contact me.

Last week our athletes did a fantastic job of getting to rehearsal and we appreciate that! Please help encourage your students to continue to make the quick transitions to each practice.

Tuesday night we will have our monthly booster meeting. This meeting is one of the most important of the year as the boosters discuss preparations for the fall season. The general meeting begins at 7pm in the OHS Band Hall. Our program depends greatly on the efforts of parents through the season. Please attend if you are able!

One last note, we have used Charms very successfully over the past five years as a communication tool with our students and parents. Recently they have been upgrading some systems and simultaneously dealing with some issues with Gmail. Until such time as those issues are resolved please look at www.odembands.org, our Facebook groups, Livingtree, and the links I’ll send out via Remind and Twitter. We apologize if you have missed those e-mails and have put in support tickets to Charms in regards to it. We are among a large number of districts having problems with their system.
