Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 9/13/2021

Before we begin this week, I would like to give a big THANK YOU to the parents who came to help us out during half-time this week. We could still use a few more parents each week to help move things quicker for setup and teardown. Both are time limited for contest, so it’s imperative we have more help!
This week our biggest obstacle for the bands will likely be the forecast of weather. We will be monitoring and playing the week by ear, but fortunately we do have the ability to accomplish many of our rehearsal needs indoors still. If students are not already on Remind I highly encourage them to do so! Text number 81010 with the message @thespiri to join, or join from the Remind App. Any last-minute notifications on weather will always be sent there! With that being said we will adjust this week’s schedule with the forecast of Tropical Storm Nicholaus passing us between 7pm Monday and 7am Tuesday on the latest forecasts. Given some of the flooding we may have in the area we will not rehearse Monday night this week. No matter what we plan to rehearse Wednesday 4pm-6pm, and Thursday 6:30pm-8:30pm.
This weekend on Saturday we are hosting the All-Region Jazz Auditions in Odem. For that we need about fifteen students and a few parent volunteers to help out that day with monitoring the students and being available to help wherever needed. Please contact me if you are available to help. We will need volunteers to arrive at about 7:30am, and the contest will take place from about 9am-3pm based on past years.
Finally, we have also received our preliminary times for the contest on September 25th in Beeville. We will perform at 3pm, with announcements of awards to be held at 6pm. I anticipate the final schedule will have us needing students at the school around 10am to do our run-through, pack up, and depart for Beeville. We should return around 7:45pm that night.
Please note that all rehearsals, games, and performances are mandatory graded events. Students need to be at all of them if we are to be successful at achieving their goals this year!
