Odem Bands Schedule – Week of 9/21/2020
This week we add another group of students to in-person learning at the JH and HS. Please ensure that those students come with their instrument and supplies to the first day. We will be going through some first day procedures, but mostly getting right into our normal classwork. Each band student (other than percussion) has been issued a special slitted mask. Students need to make sure that they do not lose them. If the ear straps break we ask that you sew on a new set of elastic if at all possible. We will most likely try and order some additional masks, but the time-frame for their arrival would be weeks away due to the surge of orders. Please note that these masks should only be used in our rehearsals, and never in a classroom or other setting!
We are watching the possible rain from Tropical Storm Beta for a potential interruption for tomorrow night’s rehearsal. As of right now it looks like we may dodge the rain and be able to get get that rehearsal in. As always if anything needs to change with our rehearsal plan I will send out that information via Remind. For HS parents/HS students to join the Remind for the HS Band – text 81010 with @thespiri . For beginning band parents Mr. Williams has been working on completing mouthpiece testing for all students. Our goal is to have that finished this week, and we will have our annual instrument drive night with Hillje Music on Wednesday, September 30th from 4:30pm-7pm. We will send out our final location decision for the event before the end of this week.
Students in all grades should be making sure that they have all of their assignments completed for band and other classes. The end of the six-weeks comes on Friday, and will affect eligibility for the rest of our home football games. Please check on your student as I know there was a large number of students on the failure report I received at the three-weeks point.
