Odem Bands Schedule Week of 9/11/2017
We would like to once again congratulate The Spirit of OHS on being the KiiiTV Band of the Week this past week! Thank you to the community for helping us to achieve 66% of the votes!
This week we will continue to move forward with the bands as we start to get into the swing of things for the year. We do have several events this week to be aware of. The first of which will be the rescheduled opening ceremonies for the New JH Building and the New Odem High School. Those ceremonies will be held at 6:30pm and 6:45pm respectively. Following those ceremonies from 7pm-8pm there will be an Open House and community members may come tour the new facilities. Due to this event we are adjusting our marching schedule to 4:30pm-6:10pm for Monday evening. I understand we’ll be missing our football players and volleyball players, but hopefully we’ll be able to still have a good rehearsal with those who are able to attend. Football and Volleyball players should come straight over from their practices to join us for the ceremonies performances.
The HS Marching Band will practice then on Wednesday from 5pm-6pm and Thursday from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Friday is another Home Football Game versus George West. We would like to thank the parents who assisted us this past week in the concession stand. We need that much or more help again each of the next 5 home football games. Please contact Mr. Hammack or another Owl Band Booster officer for more information.
OJH Beginning Band Students Instruments:
OJH Beginning Band Students should have their instruments by this Friday. Please have those students bring them that morning so we may begin to work with students. Students who ordered instruments through Hillje should have them delivered on Friday some time. We request that you be patient as we hold students instruments at the Band Hall for a few days to be certain they know how to properly, and safely, assemble and care for their instruments. By no later than the end of the week of September 18th we’ll be able to send those home. Once students do bring them home please help us encourage them to practice at least 20 minutes per day.
Band Fees Due:
Please remember that all Fall Band Fees for both JH and HS students should be paid at this time. JH students in grades 7th and 8th grade pay $25 for the fall which helps to cover band shirts and flip folders/lyres. HS Band Students first fee is $35 for all students. An additional $40 for Freshmen and students who need new band shoes is also due at this time. Please get those in as soon as you are able. We understand that Hurricane Harvey may have made finances especially tight for a while, please just let us know that is the case if you need some additional time.
2018 Orlando Trip:
Students attending this trip should have paid their monthly payment by this time. Again if there needs to be an extension we can work somewhat with parents. Please note that if a student wishes to be added to the trip we need to take care of that by October 1st. This is imperative as we are approaching the window of time we can start booking our flights. Our travel company expects a deposit of $100 per student within 10 days when we reach that point. It’s imperative students are paid up to date to help us to have no issues making those payments. If you have stayed up to date with the monthly payments of $75 there should be $775 in your students accounts.
I’ll be e-mailing statements out this afternoon. By October we need those accounts to be at the $650 mark. The total cost of the trip at this time is still $1,200, but pending airfare costs I’m hoping to lower that. Final payments are due by April 3rd.
All-Region Jazz Auditions:
We will be hosting the All-Region Jazz Auditions on Saturday, September 23rd. We some parents to help monitor students during the auditions and other assistance with the auditions. If you’re available and can help we would really appreciate any and all assistance you can give us. We’ll need most of our help from 8:00am until 3:00pm. Please contact me if you are available.
