Odem Bands Schedule: Week of 9/18/2017
Hard to believe we’re already in the third week of the school year! We would like to say thank you to everyone already for your support so far this season! In particular everyone who has helped in the concession stand these past couple weeks. Please note we have four more big home varsity games that we need volunteers for. An easy way to sign-up to help is to go to www.odembands.org and click on the Charms link above. At the top, to the right of calendars, is a button that says ‘Volunteers.’ Select an event you are able to volunteer for and fill in the information. I believe even if it asks for the student side password you can still sign-up to help in those fields. If you need your students Charms account reset please let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
Just a reminder if you login with Charms with your students info you have access to all of their trip accounts as well.
Beginning Band Instruments
All Beginning Band students should have their instruments at school by tomorrow. If this is a problem please contact Mr. Williams or Mr. Rash so we may assist you if we need to.
Odem vs. West Oso
This week continues the normal drive of September for us as we prepare to go on our first Away game of the season. We are in need of 6-8 parents to help sponsor on our buses for this game and future competitions. If you’re available please contact me asap. You will need to complete a background check form. If you go to www.odembands.org there is a button at the top labeled ‘Volunteer’ that has the form you need. Complete the form and turn it into myself or the HS office with a copy of the front and back of your drivers license. If you work for the school district, and have already had a background check through the school you do not need to complete an additional check.
All-Region Jazz Auditions
Saturday we will host the All-Region/All-Area Jazz Auditions in Odem. We need 8-10 parents to help on this day with monitoring students, running a small concession stand, and generally helping with the contest. Volunteers will need to arrive by 8:00am to help prepare. Students will register for the contest at 9am, we’ll have a directors meeting at 9:30am, and then begin the contest by 10am. I believe the majority of the actual auditions will conclude around 1pm. As the results do come in we will begin making recordings for students for the Area Round. Hopefully recordings and judging will fully conclude by 4pm. Thank you in advance if you can help with all or part of this contest. We will definitely also need assistance in cleaning up following the contest as well.
2018 Trip to Orlando
Last week I gave statements to students who have signed up already for the 2018 trip to Florida. If your student is no longer going on the trip we do ask that you formally inform us of that with a signature on the statement. If they lost that you may just send an e-mail or a note. I know a few of you have expressed that information, but I want to be sure I don’t miss anyone as I submit final information for room lists.
Students can still join in on the trip at this time. Please note that the total cost of the trip is set at $1,200 at this time, but we are hoping to bring that down once we know airfare costs. If a student wishes to join in a non-refundable deposit of $100 needs to be paid by October 3rd. Students need to have $500 in their trip accounts before the end of October. All students should have $800 in their trip accounts by January, and the final amounts should be paid off by the first of April.
I will have some trip packets for everyone tomorrow in class with the updated itinerary we have established.
Unexcused Absences
Parents we ask that you please be aware and help with students absences should they miss school. Any student who has three or more unexcused absences in a six-weeks period is ineligible for all activities. Please see the OEISD Student Handbook or our Odem Band Handbook for the specifics. Doctors notes and notes from parents are often all that is needed to change those absences to excused. Please help us make sure your student doesn’t miss out on participation for these reasons!
